i dont think he will come to us. He wants game time and with us potentially buying isco, how would we fit him in. He aint gonna get ahead of silva, isco or nasri. hes better off going to united where he will start.

As has been said we would have way too many midfielders and barely any english players if the likes of barry is sold.
He isn't a attacking midfielder. He plays more centrally..

And Nasri

Indeed, but I would consider Thiago to be more a threat to Garcia than Nasri. Also I don't think we'll get rid of Sinclair unless City bring in another english player. If Lescott goes as well, that's 2 more english players to bring in.

From what i've seen, City haven't been linked with any english players.

We have more than 8 English players so we can sell some and be fine. We should always have our number two GK be English to help with that rule.

Thiago is a cross between Iniesta and Xavi...not a Busquets at all. He is exactly a threat to Nasri. If we get Thiag (and Isco) then Nasri has to leave IMO.

do we have more than 8 english players in the squad., hart, richards, barry, lescott, milner, rodwell, sinclair. we are probably gonna sell barry, sinclair and lescott so we do need more englsih players.

every succesful team has a core of english players and i would not like it if we didnt have any in the team

-- Tue Jun 04, 2013 8:56 pm --

Clichy counts as homegrown mate, so that's 9 and then there's Guidetti too if he is part of the senior squad next season.

We don't actually have to have any English/homegrown players in the squad but if we didn't that would restrict us to a squad of just 17.

In other words we can have a maximum 17 non-homegrown players.

Hope that allays the fears regarding having enough English players.

I don't believe we'll sell Barry either.

Richard Wright would count as homegrown too right? Of the English players, I can only see Lescott and Sinclair leaving. The club aren't stupid, they will meet basic requirements such as having enough homegrown players.

Yep: Hart, Clichy, Richards, Barry, Milner, Rodwell, Wright. I assume we will buy an English backup to Joe. That would be 8. I don't see any need to sell Milner or Barry. Barry certainly will lose his starting role next season but it is time for that to happen.

Sinclair's days are now clearly numbered (assuming we get Isco) and Lescott is gone. Still have 8 though (assuming a new backup GK). And as some of the foreign kids come through the system they will be classified as English.

Now if you want a core of English players for other reasons then you have a point, but that is something you want not something the club needs and it seems you and Tixki aren't on the same wavelength there.

With regard to Nasri and Razak....we would be insane not to buy Thiago and sell Nasri (Thiago is a far better player). Razak is not ready for the first team.

Yep, I thought Cheadle_hulmeBlue had mentioned him, sorry. That makes ten in all if we're including Guidetti.

Wright's contract is finished in August, not sure we're going to renew but may give Johansen his place.

Anyway, back on topic, I think Thiago would be a great addition but I wonder if our interest is genuine or are we using it as a bargaining chip for Fernandinho whilst at the same time keeping his value high so the Rags don't get him for less than his buy-out clause.
