Things mother made you do

We were poor. Mother used to make me clean my teeth with a mixture of soot and salt.
Was she being abusive or was it accepted culture in Manchester ?

My Mam used to make me light the coal fire before going out on my milk round at 5.30am.
Until i threw a lit piece of paper in the whicker basket bin on my way out and nearly barbecued the family.
Came back to my Mam, Dad, Brother and Sister standing outside the house looking like a black and white minstrel troupe.
Had to run the gauntlet back into the house as the whole family slapped the fcuk out of me.
Funnily enough they never let me do it again

Yer can buy toothpaste now with carbon in it. Yer Mam seems to know what she was doing.
