Things to do in Bath (the city....)

It's been 35 years since I was there

First went to Cambridge in about 1970 to visit a friend who was up at university there. I did not like it. Felt like an incredibly snooty, hidebound place. Been going much more regularly since about 2000, because I've got various friends there. It's changed a lot, mainly for the better. Although it's crawling with tourists at the weekend, especially in summer. Now I'm the one that sounds snooty!
Terrific pub out opposite Grantchester Meadows, but I'm afraid the name escapes me. Very good selection of real ales. You need a car to get to it, though. Or be prepared to cycle out to it (which actually would be a good way of spending a lovely Cambridge summer evening).

I grew up 35 miles west of Cambridge, went there quite a bit in the 70's and later to a few Football games with Northampton. Only pub I remember was The Anchor, it sat right on the river. Nice enough

Not long back.
Me and my boy had a blast.

Lovely city, very pretty especially when the sun latches onto all that yellow stone than absolutely dominates.
Lots of cool little eateries, coffee shops and stuff to do.

The Roman Baths were definitely the highlight and my son thoroughly enjoyed this. The Ghost Tour in the evening was fun too.
Fortunately we got amazing blue sky weather yesterday, less so today but did the open top bus tour this morning.
Pulteney bridge looks special (although just a 'street' from a different angle (somehow thought it was covered).
Ace Pasteis de nata place on that street btw.

Forum and Watchhouse both great 'artisanal' coffee shops.
Found this great booze shop called Amethyst too.

Most of the city is walkable in about 15 mins in all directions so pocket sized fun.
Definitely feels like a Georgian time capsule and I could see why you want to get to see more 'contemporary' cities (such as Bristol) for a change of scene.

Rare moments with my son was what I do these for (he's 13 next week) so have to fit in as many of these as I can before he no longer feels as keen.
Oxford/Cambridge and possibly Edinburgh as potentials next.

Thanks for all the tips and advice btw!

(Sally Lunns was extraordinarily busy so didn't make it this time).
