Eh up blues

Me, the missus and our 14 year old lad are off to the Big Apple for 10 days next week.

There’s a few must visit places on our list of things to see and do but I’d interested to hear of any other suggestions from those of ya who’ve been and done it.

Cheers

If you're visiting New York City for the first time, be sure to experience iconic landmarks like Times Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. Consider a visit to the Empire State Building or Top of the Rock for panoramic city views. Explore Central Park, catch a Broadway show, and immerse yourself in the city's vibrant culture by visiting museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of what to do:
Landmarks and Views:
  • Times Square: A must-see for its energy and dazzling lights.

  • Brooklyn Bridge: Walk or bike across for stunning views of the city and harbor.

  • Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island: Take a ferry for close-up views and a glimpse into immigration history.

  • Empire State Building & Top of the Rock: Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city skyline.

  • One World Trade Center: Ascend the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere for another perspective.

  • Grand Central Terminal: Admire the architecture and history of this iconic transportation hub.

  • The High Line: Walk along this elevated park built on former railway lines.
Museums and Culture:
Other Activities:
  • Central Park: Relax, stroll, rent a rowboat, or enjoy the scenery.
  • Broadway Show: Experience the magic of live theater.
  • Yankee Stadium: Catch a baseball game.
  • Food Tours: Sample the diverse culinary scene.
  • Walking Tours: Explore different neighborhoods and learn about their history and culture.
  • Shopping: Discover unique boutiques and department stores.
  • Staten Island Ferry: Enjoy free views of the Statue of Liberty and the city skyline.
  • Chelsea Market: Explore a variety of food vendors and shops.

Don’t bother with the ferry over to see Statue of liberty,
Take the Beast down the Hudson River from midtown instead
Get yourself a New York pass or similar

One of my favourite things to do is just soak it in and absorb the New York buzz, don't try and fight it.Plus going over to Brooklyn and walking back over the bridge at dusk watching the city lightup as you cross. Do New York things that you'd imagine Pastrami sandwiches in a Deli , Hot dog stands etc,Yellow cab ride. We took our children at a bit younger but those are the things they really remember 10 years on, and the characters.

If you're going down to the WTC go in here for lunch, it's a bit manic but great piece of NYC.

A bike rickshaw ride around Central Park is well worth it. Just agree a price with the owner before you get in one.

911 museum is sobering. Not sure "great" is the right word if you know whatc i mean but is well worth a visit. Is a little church just opposite (St Pauls Chapel) that has an interesting story and a memorial to the first responders.

Is a bar at top of the rockerfella tower. It's good, but even better is it has great views/photo opportunities of the empire state building.

Ellen's diner is good for something different. Food is standard diner fayre but entertainment is good. Used to get quite busy

Don't bother paying to see the Statue of Liberty, it's a massive waste of time and money. Get the free ferry to Staten Island and you go right past it anyway
Yes, but Ellis Island is worth a stop and usually the same trip as the statue.
