One of the more common misconceptions. Fuel was never cheap. I'll take a guess that at no point in your life did you consider fuel, AT THAT GIVEN TIME, as cheap. It only seems cheap now because you're looking back through rose coloured glasses as well as comparing prices then to now.

Average at home right now is about £2.12 a gallon/.53 a litre

£5.28/1.32 here

I know what you're saying though I remember after sept 11th it went up to like 2 dollars a gallon or something and I wasn't sure how'd I'd survive
