This City

We all did the journey, we all came back, because somehow we all knew, one day, this City would rise.

I think you'll find I fucking didn't and staying the journey had fuck all to do with league position but to do with loving being a blue and the general character of my fellow blues. I don't buy this commercialised scripted fucking nonsense trying to speak for all blues. Some script written by some City PR guy doesn't speak for me and certainly can't speak for all blues. I don't even think that quote speaks for most of us. Were we loyal because we thought in the end it would pay off, or were we loyal, because, like many other fans up and down the country who follow their team week in and week out who live with no hope of trophy glory, especially in the lower leagues, following your team means more than trophies? Before 2007, I was well aware of the reality that I may never live to see us win a trophy but it didn't deflect my passion in anyway.

I normally wouldn't be saying this as I'm pretty live-and-let-live but amongst the club replacing actual flags with digital flags and thus trying to assert pre-approval control over them, surveys being emailed to me trying to profile me to the point where they want to know when I last took a piss, this sort of shit is beginning to fucking rankle. As far I'm concerned, they need to back off and let fans be fans without trying to speak for us or down to us, control us or profile us to a greater degree than the US government profiles Assange and Snowden.
Fair points there.

My initial thoughts were that I liked the video but I certainly see the other point of view.

With regards to why we kept going in our "darker days", it's certainly the second. We kept going despite the reality of the situation because we loved going to support our club and having good days out with our mates;. The thought of success never entered our heads. Supporting a football club isn't about seeing them win trophies.

And uncertainly feel the same about the last paragraph. Spot on that.

If Carlsberg did propaganda videos...

OK, I can see why some might find it cheesy, but remember it was made for an exclusive event for City fans and I doubt the intention was to show it to the world. If I saw this at the ground a while before kick-off, it'd definitely get me in the mood to sing. The majority seem to love it and for good reason!

What interests me is that the club almost seems to be having an identity crisis. They like to show pictures of big banners, of fans climbing where they shouldn't climb, of pitch invasions, of smoke bombs, of great togetherness. Meanwhile, ticket prices go up pricing out a huge percentage of our fans, hand-made banners/flags are banned from level two, and they almost try to make the match day experience the very opposite of what they like to celebrate in pictures and videos.
Good point. They sold t-shirts saying "stand up; turn around; jump up and down...the Poznań" then have Showsec telling everyone to sit down. They show close ups on videos of fans running in the pitch, setting smoke bombs off, and holding our own made flags up and then tell us all we shouldn't be doing those things and put things in place to stop us doing them.

I wonder, when the club finally has us all there sitting down eating hot dogs and not singing or jumping or owt, what they'd show on the videos...

Sorry, you equally don't speak for all City fans as in your statement 'I don't think that quote speaks for most of us'

I personally hate the City 'martyrdom ' type support. I certainly didn't support the blues for success but I would be a liar if I said I didn't dream of us winning the premier league or have hope that it might happen one day.

History books tell you that football is cyclical (or it would be if UEFA don't get their way) so I always harboured hopes that we would eventually get success.

That video IMO captures the essence of being a blue and I'm amazed that it didn't stir some sort of pride in you of being a blue and the fact you stuck the course and are now reaping the rewards. It's a classic tale of good triumphing over evil and if you can't see the element of 'poetic license' in the video and take it for what it is then I feel a little bit sorry for you.

I was speaking for myself. See where I said 'I don't think'. That means it's my opinion of what I think most of us believe about staying the course. I didn't state 'that quote doesn't speak for most of us' because then that would be speaking for others. The only time I used the word we instead of I is when I asked a question. You also have chosen to ignore the fact that I did ask it because it destroys your fanciful notion that I was speaking for others.

Start a poll on it if you want, 'Did you stay loyal in expectation of future success?'. I THINK (that's an opinion of what I suspect rather than an assertion of belief on the part of third parties) most people will say no and would support the club even if we never won a trophy again.

Only a fucking rag would find fault with that vid and it seems a few are a tad upset by it.....

It's a magnificent video and one that strikes at the emotions perfectly and without a doubt, would make a great pre match watch to get everyone going.

Watch it and fucking weep rag fuckers!

Spot on.
Like an earlier poster, I don't do City Square, I don't spend in the stadium on food, drink or programmes
But I do take a flag (or did) to drape over the front of level 2 and I buy into City Live (which have both been excellent apart from the CitySquare type bits)

Whether we 'knew' that one day we would rise or just plainly 'hoped' it would happen doesn't really matter in the scheme of things. Our owners have had the vision that they could take City to the very top. To do this the club support must grow and because there is a finite number of those of us who were there when we were shit they have to balance the way they go about growing by managing the supporters they have and finding the ways to attract the new supporters needed. Personally, I think the balance is pretty good.

The owners and managers clearly think they will be successful and that the supporters are out there because they are expanding the ground. For me I think this may see the peak of ticket prices and may even lead to reductions to bring new people or encourage returnees.

Everyone wont like everything the club does but there are so many opportunities to make feelings known to the club and provide feedback I dont think they could do anymore.

Our team are still capable of cocking it up on the field, the ticket office are still capable of monumental cock-ups and the board are still capable of coming up with stupid ideas, but we are still rising.
This City is still My City.

The older I get the more susceptible to over sentimental tat I get. So I liked it but felt it needed to rhyme more.

Personally the video that has made me cry the most on the OS was the one they made of Clichy and Hart hugging each other after the qpr game. Simple and with a tint of homoeroticism - sums up football for me
