Sometimes I wish we were still shit!

Bear with me...

Believe me, these feelings of 'wishing we were still shit' are very few and far between. But, does anybody else wish there wasn't so much pressure on us?

I love the fact that we are competing for the Premier League, winning trophies in the past two seasons (and looking good for a third), showcasing some of the best players in the world, and generally being the centre of attention. But our expectations are so high now that it takes a little bit of the excitement away...

I have a vivid memory of beating Newcastle (I think it was 1-0 or 2-1, and I think Steve Howey scored) and that was the biggest result of the season, and was celebrated like we had won the league! Nowadays, if we dared to even draw with Newcastle the players would be booed off by some fans, slated in the media, the managers job security discussed in the press etc. and I find it a little tiresome.

I think what has brought this on is that when City play against teams my friends support (Villa, West Ham, Wigan, Bolton etc.) they always have the "Well, no one expected us to beat you" and it just reminds me of the days of no pressure, and the joy of a simple 3 points! I remember when winning a match, no matter who against, was celebrated with raucous cheers and celebration - compared to nowadays we just applaud what we have seen and casually saunter out of the stadium with a well-that-was-always-going-to-happen swagger!

Basically, we spent so long being the underdog and not expecting to win, that I am struggling to adjust to being the favourite! I'm loving it, and love seeing City winning (especially after all the shit we have had in the past), and am not going to start supporting Stockport County or anything - I just sort of miss the old days!

Anyone else? Or am I on my own?

I have said that before its not the same now and even though im delighted we are champions it just doesnt feel like im a proper football fan anymore. Miss the old city

There is a certain appeal to being the underdog. I always felt we were the team who could surprise anyone on our day, no matter where in the league we were.

And some of the best days out ever were when we were in the old second division. We often outnumbered the home support and packed out their away end like they'd never seen before. Happy days. Would I go back? Would I fuck.

I could always handle the disappointment, now it's the hope that destroys me!

The transition in mentality will take a while to change but at least we can still see a little of the Typical City every now and then to see us through.

When the Typical City is truly eradicated, the transition is complete.

I think we all do a bit. But as much as I miss typical city, maine road, being the underdog etc, this was (don't tell the missus) the best day of my life and can never be taken away from us

Strange isn't it? You're right - back in the day I was convinced that we would lose and be pleasantly surprised when we pulled off a win. Now, it's disappointing when we don't get a result!

I guess we've gotta be philosophical and enjoy the good times. We could do an Arsenal at some point and not win a trophy for seven years!

This is me to an extent, the disappointment of loosing is 20 times worse but on the flip side happens 20 times less, quid pro quo

Give over. Not for one fucking second do I miss supporting a shit football team. Watching turgid games in front of half empty stadiums. Trudging miles home gutted after allowing the hope to build up yet again. Knowing your season is over before the turkey's gone cold. Watching the brash show offs down the road winning everything.

Whilst there is enjoyment in the surprise victory when your team is no good, and you can claim to all around that there's honour in blind loyalty, lets just get one thing abundantly clear: it's a hundred times better sitting down to watch silva, aguero and kompany on a weekly basis. It's a hundred times better going to old Trafford without fear. It's a thousand times better going to wembley and lifting trophies.

I've given a lifetime to wanting the best for Manchester city and now we are here I don't forget that for a moment. I want us to get better and better and better.

Being shit is shit. Going home angry, or disillusioned, or desperate, week after week:Fuck that. I like winning, thanks.
