This may sound a little odd...

Think a few people are missing the point of this post, cause I agree with the OP.

Of course I would rather watch City travel to Old Trafford without fear. Of course I would rather go unbeaten at home for countless games. Of course I would rather take 93:20 over York away. All of those are a given.

However, when watching games now I feel so much more nervous, and I care about the result because it actually matters towards something. Anything less than 3 points is a disappointment. In the old days, I didn't care too much about the result as I didn't often expect one. Looking back, I question why I went to every home game throughout the Pearce era, cause it was mind-numbingly boring football with no result. The club was in a real mess. But I still went every week cause I loved going to see my team play, regardless of result. I loved going to cup games and seeing the players and hoping for that next step towards wembley.

I've been going to City since 1997, so have seen the rise and fall of this club, I haven't seen the lows of the late 80's that people have mentioned, but have seen the lows of the late 90's. Would I take any of that back? No. Would I fuck. City are the Premier League Champions. That is a sentence I never thought I would be able to say without being on a Playstation. My childhood dreams of seeing City win trophies has now come true, and I would not change it for the world. But the stress and pressure of expecting to win every game is something that I'm still not yet used to, as I'm still expecting Typical City to self destruct once again, doing what we do best. I will enjoy myself while we are good, as who really knows how long this is going to last. Now that I go on the train with my old man and his mate, we make every game a day out, get on the piss, and enjoy ourselves leading up to the game, cause its the only way that the nerves don't get to me. Having said that, if we do become shit again, I'll probably just do the same!

Sometimes I wish we were still shit!

Bear with me...

Believe me, these feelings of 'wishing we were still shit' are very few and far between. But, does anybody else wish there wasn't so much pressure on us?

I love the fact that we are competing for the Premier League, winning trophies in the past two seasons (and looking good for a third), showcasing some of the best players in the world, and generally being the centre of attention. But our expectations are so high now that it takes a little bit of the excitement away...

I have a vivid memory of beating Newcastle (I think it was 1-0 or 2-1, and I think Steve Howey scored) and that was the biggest result of the season, and was celebrated like we had won the league! Nowadays, if we dared to even draw with Newcastle the players would be booed off by some fans, slated in the media, the managers job security discussed in the press etc. and I find it a little tiresome.

I think what has brought this on is that when City play against teams my friends support (Villa, West Ham, Wigan, Bolton etc.) they always have the "Well, no one expected us to beat you" and it just reminds me of the days of no pressure, and the joy of a simple 3 points! I remember when winning a match, no matter who against, was celebrated with raucous cheers and celebration - compared to nowadays we just applaud what we have seen and casually saunter out of the stadium with a well-that-was-always-going-to-happen swagger!

Basically, we spent so long being the underdog and not expecting to win, that I am struggling to adjust to being the favourite! I'm loving it, and love seeing City winning (especially after all the shit we have had in the past), and am not going to start supporting Stockport County or anything - I just sort of miss the old days!

Anyone else? Or am I on my own?

Come on here on matchdays and you'll feel like an underdog mate..

mmmmmmmmm Prem title or 1-0 win against Newcastle....??? it's a toughey.

Give over. Not for one fucking second do I miss supporting a shit football team. Watching turgid games in front of half empty stadiums. Trudging miles home gutted after allowing the hope to build up yet again. Knowing your season is over before the turkey's gone cold. Watching the brash show offs down the road winning everything.

Whilst there is enjoyment in the surprise victory when your team is no good, and you can claim to all around that there's honour in blind loyalty, lets just get one thing abundantly clear: it's a hundred times better sitting down to watch silva, aguero and kompany on a weekly basis. It's a hundred times better going to old Trafford without fear. It's a thousand times better going to wembley and lifting trophies.

I've given a lifetime to wanting the best for Manchester city and now we are here I don't forget that for a moment. I want us to get better and better and better.

Being shit is shit. Going home angry, or disillusioned, or desperate, week after week:Fuck that. I like winning, thanks.

Blimey I can't believe I actually agree with DD ! I'm going to have to take a lie down in a dark room this has rocked me to the core.

I'm on the fence with this one, Half agree with the OP, half agree with DD

As much as i hate losing, always did, its something we were all used to and something that was part of being a Blue, we could deal with defeat, thats something i see slipping away from a lot of people who come on here posting.

As much as i'd like to, and want us to win every game we play in, i think if we did it would get very boring after a couple of seasons, personally i'd like us to win the league every year, but maybe still with a roller coaster of emotions along the way.

i think the odd defeat keeps you grounded, and winning the league next year will be all the sweeter for losing it this year ( yes i've given in now ), rather than just thinking 'yeah, thats three on the bounce'.

I wouldn't change our recent success and riches for anything. But deep down I do really miss those old days, even if we were shit. I sometimes fear with all this success we may lose some of our soul.

I think the hardest time for me as a city fan was Newcastle away last year, my head was completely fucked, I lost all power on reason, could drive, had to walk to the shop for fags

i was a mess as well, remember how sweet the feeling was for the 2 yaya goals?

the derby 1-0 last season, i nearly threw up and hadn't even had a drink!

I love winning.
I love our heritage and history.
Key is, don't get arrogant when we win. Don't feel entitled to wins.
