Played 9 - Points = 16

2012/2013

Played 9 - Points = 21

2011/2012

Played 9 - Points = 25

Now yes, this season's PL is extremely competitvely balanced. Yes, other teams have strengthened (so did we according to most on this forum both in terms of a managerial appointment and players brought in) and yes it fails to appreciate the nuances such as your goalkeeper having a difficult start to the season.

But ultimately, the facts are the facts and right now we are regressing in terms of points. We played very well in large parts yesterday and have shown real promise against Utd, but there is something very Newcastle under Keegan about us right now. I would expect us to respond and make a statement now and only a really good November and December will mean we have any chance of winning the title.

But it aint looking anywhere near title form right now.

For a fairer analysis you would have to compare match for match-Who have we played?

I think we're the same as last season. Wins at home to Norwich and away to Sunderland would have us +6.

Its just a general picture of the league right now and where we fit in. Some will say take away Harts mistakes and we'd have 20+ points. But its all relative and the fact remains the same. Everything else is just subjective.

If we do that and replace Hull and Cardiff with relegated teams, last year we would have had between 14 and 16 points (depending on whether we count QPR, Wigan or Reading in place of Cardiff). The year before we would have had 22 points (we beat all relegated teams home and away).

If we only count teams that we have played each year, we are 3 points better off than last year.

These facts do not take into account the new tactics Pellegrini has us playing, you can clearly see an improvement in performance, once we cut out the individual errors and get a settled centre back pairing of Kompany and Demichelis we will be fine.

That's all well and done, but you have to compare our results against comparable teams and see where we sit then. I don't think that we are too far off when you do that.

No it isn't , but there were periods yesterday when we looked a really good side , and Chelsea were struggling to cope with us ...... Silva was pulling all the second half strings , and the only way they could stop him was to clobber him , which they did !

We were the better side yesterday , and Mourinho knew it , that's why he reacted the way he did after Torres's late winner earned them an unlikely victory.
