No an in answer this is exactly why I don't like the false 9. It does means no runs in behind. It allows the defenders to constantly be facing the front. It does not give the team a focus and is generally much easier to defend against. Messi and Totti are the only two players I have seen do it well.

You can definitely make those runs with a False 9. Messi does it. I've seen Silva do it for Spain. I've also watched Ribery and Robben simply stop several times tonight instead of making the runs.

It's not quite the same and the centre backs have plenty of time to see it and cover.

Bring on a proper striker and immediately things change. Great goal from Schweinsteiger. And this is exactly what they were not doing in the first half. No runs into the box from the midfielders.
