A SCHOOL has been shut for two days and pupils sent home — as the teachers jet off to a meeting in MARBELLA.

Furious parents are struggling to find childcare for today and tomorrow while 80 staff enjoy a four-star hotel with pool and casino.

The four-day jaunt is estimated to cost around £40,000 — £500 per teacher. Two guest speakers are also flying out.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 pupils at Edensor Technology College, in Longton, Staffs, have been set homework and will be taught over the INTERNET.

Headteacher Richard Mercer insists it is actually CHEAPER to hold the conference at the Andalucia Plaza Marbella Hotel on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
But outraged parent Andy Sales, 34, fumed: “Why isn’t this money being spent on our kids? Parents are having to take time off work or are paying for extra childcare while the staff are enjoying the sun at the school’s expense.”

Dad Peter Robson, 38, added: “We received a letter saying the school would be shut for training but didn’t mention Marbella. It’s a waste of money when they could have met in the school.”

Staff would not say why the secondary was not being used. But Mr Mercer said: “It’s unbelievable, but it’s more cost-effective to go abroad as it’s the end of the season. If parents think this is a ‘jolly’ they should join us and find out how hard the staff work.”

Well obviously you can make it up, that's from the Sun. If true though, it's absolutely outrageous.

Doctors do it all the time. Weekend on the slopes in Europe, Saturday morning lecture in a new drug then the weekend's skiing all gratis.

yes and whilst morally its no better thats paid for by a drug company and not the tax payer, (directly)

don't be so childishly naive! Why do you think cancer drugs cost the taxpayer thousands of pounds a pop?

thats why the word directly was contained at the end of the sentance, but i think that they cost a lot of money because they cost an awful lot of money to produce. All round the world as we speak there are thousands of people randomly firing compounds at each other in the vain hope of finding the golden bullet. It costs a fuck of a lot of money and unless you allow companies patents they would never do it. The small proportion of that thousand pounds that is down to doctors not prescribing generics when they could (harldy the case in most cancer drugs as the patents have yet to run out in most cases) because they have been wined and dined by pharma companies is the immoral part.

Although i realise its a lot easier just to swallow the rhetoric dolled out by popularist press.

Well if it's cheaper then fair enough.

How can flying 80 people to Spain be cheaper than using the School?

Cleaning staff, catering, electricity for four extra days and accommodation and travel for the guest speakers could come close. Add to that a boost in moral for your staff and it's probably worth it. It's the Sun so there's no doubt that there would have been some fact that they have conveniently missed out.

why cant they hold it during the extensive holidays they get.

Pisses me right off that after a two week school holiday, we have to fork out for more child care, as they are having a "training day". After every school holiday it happens.

never allow the truth to get in the way of a bigoted rant but training days were taken off their holidays when they started.
