DH over on Mancityfans.net has suggested this is the formation Mancini has been working on this week, with Kompany, Lescott and Boateng the three centre backs, and Zaba and AK as the flying wingers.

Mario being the striker to miss out.

Is tonight to be the first outing for this new formation for City?

Will be interesting to see how it works, if that is in fact how we line up

Ivejust posted the same in yesterdays training report, should be interesting and a formation i think would work better, shame we don't have slightly pacier full backs available.

..........Boateng..Komps..Lescott...........
Zaba............Yaya......Barry............Kol
.....................Silva..........................
.........Tevez..............Dzeko..............

At a guess.

Yep - that's exactly the way I saw it set out too.

I guess, with the personnel currently available (no Richards, de Jong, Milner, AJ), its not a bad line up.

At least we can give it a run out tonight, against potentially less taxing opposition, to see how it works.

Couple of comments: Interesting to see if Mancini indeed are willing to try out a new formation in a knock-out european game. If we had Richards available i would definately have liked it.
I am however not a fan of playing Yaya and Barry together normally, but i guess with Dejong and Milner out, and them both moving back a bit to make room for Silva in the playmaker role, it could work. I would prefer Zabaleta in the central midfield though, we seem a bit light in there...

Noone plays 3-5-2 any more. Too much space for the oppositions wide men to exploit

King Kenny.......

I think that's exactly why he's doing it. It's in fashion again.

And, for those saying SWP should be a wingback, I disagree. His defensive qualities are, well, terrible. Zaba all the way.

EDIT: Team's just been posted on OS, we're not playing 4 at the back.

Bit harsh that,SWP has saved our bacon with terrific backtracking challenges on plenty of occasions. Its six of one.... as neither in truth are ideal, however, given our lack of personnel/options......

I guess we can kill this now.......

Pretty sure a lot of those he's saved are because he's sloppy in possession :D

Don't get me wrong, I love the lad, Chelsea just ruined him.

People seem to forget that around 01/02 SWP played as a wing-back on the odd occasion and didn't do a bad job.

I do, I also remember when he went to Chelsea and came back half the player that left.
