thursday/sunday or wednesday/saturday

Its a kick in the teeth for us overseas fans as getting a sunday flight with ryanair is bloody awkward on sundays.
Sundays are impossible to do from here. It'd mean getting an early flight from Dublin (2.5 hr drive) then getting the last flight back which gets into Dublin around 11-ish (?), then that return drive back home, arriving around 2am. Then up again at 6:30 for work on monday morning. Done it a few times and it's a killer; you are absolutely shattered come 10 or 11 on monday morning. Don't fancy doing that again. And taking monday off work is not, for several reasons, a viable option. It has to be a saturday k.o. for me to have any chance of getting over. Although, to contradict myself, I am over for the league game against the red mickeys; holiday time, see?

Not all the Champions League games are on Weds. Half are on Tuesday so that gives you an extra days rest

And often games are scheduled for a Sunday anyway after the Weds

There's less recovery time after Europa League games

Exactly. No flexibility in the Europa League.

The reason its hated is because your rivals have always got the upper hand playing first, and your always playing catchup. However, with United also in the Europa League, they'll be in the same position so its not that bad.

mark my words utd will still play wednesdays/sat., if we are both drawn at home the same week even more so.

Thing with the Europa Leagues is it's always Thursday/Sunday, Thursday/Sunday. We were obviously fatigued last year and our form didn't pick up until we got knocked out. Think we won 8 of the last 10 after being knocked out.

With CL you play Tuesday or Wednesday and then play your league game on Saturday or Sunday (or Monday this time). It's not Thursday/Sunday every time.

Nail on the head
