A Reijnders - Rodri - Gibbs white midfield is perfect no weakness.

I know it's not the name midfield people want with Wirtz it would be the best in Europe. But its levels above what we have right now.

Physically strong , pace , goals and creativity.

I love how Gibbs White makes a perfect City midfield after one very good season but Foden, who has had several great seasons and one bad one, doesn’t feature.

Gibbs White will never ever be better than Foden over a period longer than 1-2 years. Not even close to being as talented.

Expect Foden to be back big time when he’s over his injuries and has stuff closer to home sorted.

Rodri, kovacic, foden. That's a better midfield 3 and wouldn't cost us a penny.

Kovacic injury prone doesn’t provide half the goals Reijnders does, Reijnders best midfielder in Seri A and hitting his prime, hitting numbers in midfield that Kovacic had never hit

Foden off form illness and struggling mentally, will he back who knows but right now he doesn’t get in the team.

Gibbs White less technical but more physical and wants to improve as a player. Heat map and stats show he’s very where in the middle. Would provide us energy in midfield.

Quite happy if this goes through. Thought it was completely off the cards after the contract

They just want him because we want him. It’s obvious what Madrid has been doing. From hijacking Barca transfers they now moved to us too
Often think these things are driven by the player's current club. AC Milan will be desperate to drive the price up.

Before this season, Reijnders had never scored as many goals in a season as kovacic has for us this season playing as the 6. Its far from a given hes going to offer a consistent source of goals.

Neither he nor MGW could be described as young and yet this is the first season where they've performed anywhere near the levels needed to even get our attention. Foden and kovacic have shown more over their careers for us to back them to offer us more next season once kovacic is back in his 8 position and foden has hopefully rested and can regain his form.

I would agree on the Reijnders point. He's traditionally been more like the Gundogan of old, going up and down the pitch and often the player who is involved in the lead up to goals but not necessarily the one scoring or credited with assists.

However, if we are signing Gibbs-White and Reijnders, then it feels as if we're preparing to open up the pitch and play more expansively, because these two can manage much more running than either Foden or Kovacic.

But we are trying to sign Reijnders and likely MGW. So it would be combinations of the options at 8/10 etc. Foden isn't going anyway and will be backed to find his form - hopefully in a fully functioning team with versatile, hungry players

Reijnders' agent is his father, Martin, who was also a professional player and manager in the Netherlands, and his national coach is some guy called Koeman, who is best friends and golfing buddies with some other ex-Barcelona has been.

Don't think that's something we can presume with Pep. Quite often what we see from players before we sign them isn't what we see when they come here. Pep makes them fit into his ideas rather than changing his ideas to fit what weve got. As an example, when we signed haaland we thought we'd attack more quickly and utilise his ability to get in behind and we didnt.

Not sure if that's entirely true, for instance we have used the long ball as a means of bypassing the press since we've got Haaland s pace and physicality.

Since the Champions League final, we've been moving in the direction of a more expansive style of football. All of the attacking players, save for Bobb and Grealish, are now players who need space to thrive, but we've been unable to play expansively because of the aging midfield and lack of players in there who can genuinely go box-to-box. The arrival of Reijnders and Gibbs-White would go some ways to addressing that issue.

The more interesting questions are how Guardiola reacts to having less control in games when we play expansively, and how we can draw those teams out that have no intention of attacking.

We have a history of upping goalscoring of midfielders - Gundo, Kovacic, KDB, Sterling and going back Yaya. Key to our breaking down low blocks is to move the ball with pace and accuracy. Pep has slowed down our game as I dont believe he trusts our accuracy and fears turnovers that expose our defence - with good reason. So the question for me is more whether players we are signing can move the ball both quickly and accurately rather than their past goalscoring history.
