To all Fellow Blues the World Over,
Happy New Year to you! Wishing peace, happiness and Sky Blue Wins throughout 2013. As everyone is saying in this thread, 2012 will be remembered in a very special way by us all.
Speaking of which and from the heart…
I am a 45 year old American who lives in a decidedly working class city (Detroit) famous for being home to a pair of underachieving, inconsistent, maddening to watch pro sports teams. One has been in the shit my entire life (Detroit Lions Football) and I felt the pain of another shit performance by another shit Lions team just yesterday. We’ve never won a title in all my 45 years of life. Happily the season is over now and we are free of the shackles until August. The other is the Detroit Red Wings hockey team. The Wings are my favorite sports team in the world. When I was growing up, they were PATHETIC. They would lose the games they were supposed to win and win the games they were supposed to lose. It was horrible. It was painful. It was my life as a Red Wings fan.
In June of 1997, after 42 years of not winning a thing, we rose to the summit of the league and won the Stanley Cup. I was 30 at the time and had lived in the shit with my favorite team for all 30 years of my life. We had to beat our most bitter rivals, the Colorado Avalanche, to win the Cup, and that made it all so much sweeter. The feeling of winning that first title was insane. Hugging my father, my mother, my sisters, my brothers, my cousins, my friends. The endless parties. The heavy drinking. The insane celebrations that lasted all summer long. It was the best summer of my life, in some ways.
So, to all you English Blues - especially to all those in Manchester – who follow City and bleed blue and had spent the years having the piss taken out of you day after day for your entire lives (especially by THEM LOT), I say CONGRATULATIONS one last time in 2012 for winning the league last May. It felt like 1997 all over for me in many ways. If you guys knew how many times I have watched this video, you’d call me crazy. It’s just that I love seeing you all on there, in that ground, after all those years, in that electric moment of release as it all fell into your arms and you finally had what you had waited so long for. You earned it through all those years of support through thick and thin. You’re the greatest fans I have ever seen. You're magnificent.

I hope 2013 brings you all some more of that good stuff. HAPPY NEW YEAR, YOU CHAMPIONS!
