Today's shooting in America thread

In what ways will I not like gun regulation?

What EXACTLY do you want from me?

As a responsible dog owner, am I supposed to be marching to ban dangerous animals?

As a car owner, am I to lead the fight for safer cars…or just ban petroleum powered vehicles? I have one electric and have a Model Y on order. But, am I doing enough? Should I organize?

I’m one of MILLIONS of legal, responsible gun owners and I want violent offenders jailed for a loooong time. That’s the law now, but who the fuck follows it???

So, a FEDERAL LAW then, that covers everyone in every state?

HAHA! There are not enough police, DAs, attorneys, court rooms or prisons to enforce that law. And, as the saying goes, you make law-abiding citizens exercising their Constitutional Rights into criminals.

The REAL problem is that criminals who commit crimes with guns are not punished nearly strongly enough to deter people who use them.
So just TFD then. Got it.

That is the crux of the issue isn't it?
Responsible gun owners wouldn't voluntarily give their guns up knowing that every crackpot in the village is stock piling.

I have been here 10 years and always been anti gun ownership but recently been toying with the idea of getting one on the basis that every other fucker has one. It isn't a case of keeping up with the Jones's but living on a level playing field.

Don’t you live in a caravan?

Probably increases the likelihood that Billybob and Cletus will burgle your home whilst you are out. :)

How are AR pistols classified?

Under US law, when manufactured with a barrel length less than 16 inches (410 mm) and without a shoulder stock, it is legally considered a pistol as opposed to being a short-barreled rifle, and is described as an AR-15 style pistol.

Except it is not a pistol by ordinary plain English or most technical terminology.

It is a gun designed to escape the remit of legislation designed to restrict and control the types of rifle Americans are allowed to own, but it is against the spirit of the laws.

It's illegal to own a short barrel shotgun, so gun manufacturers designed revolver pistol shotguns to get around the laws.

The all powerful gun lobby have a grip on lawmakers, mainly on the Republican side, but not exclusively. And 2a has been bastardised and distorted to such a degree that to go against it in certain circles is akin to religious blasphemy.

Until that changes you are pissing in the wind if you think this can be tackled in one big push for change. We are talking incremental changes over perhaps a generation or more. There has to be a starting point to any change, and it needs to happen soon.

But you’ve never had to do it or had anyone shooting back… I hope it never comes to it mate, but you just don’t know.
I can’t see the future, but my life is train, prepare, take action. That’s how I approached football, the business world, aviation, and it’s how I approach other things in life.

Accordingly, if anyone wants to come into my home and threaten us, even with a firearm, I’m ready, willing, and able to take my chances…which are much improved by my being trained, prepared and ready to take action.

Oh, and at age 23, with only a few hours of training under his belt, my son can also put a magazine of bullets in a soccer ball diameter from 25 feet. Therefore, if we have the time to open the safe, he can help protect us, too.

I’m no Doc Holliday, but I’d wager I’m a better, calmer shot than the average gangbanger looking to score some loot!
