Today's shooting in America thread

Just out of interest, what’s the most powerful gun you can buy without much hassle? I see films where it almost looks like you can walk into a gun shop and buy an Uzi but I guess it’s not that straightforward!

We're more restricted north of the border, but with the basic Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) I can buy any of these......

If I have taken the appropriate straightforward course, I can buy any of these. They have to be registered to my ownership. In the store, I just have to show my licence, pay for it and off I go.

If I want to buy air rifle pellets, I have to show my gun or drivers licence and it's recorded and I'll be escorted to the cashier to pay.

I cannot stand Florida. Flat, humid, swampy, faux everything, hurricanes a third of the year, thunderstorms half the year, mostly a cultural wasteland, filled with alligators and Floridians (i.e. the worst of the northeastern and overseas transplants in the south; just as hicky as the rural south in the north).

But if you grew up where it was cold, I can see the appeal of not being cold. And if you grew up where everything was expensive, I can see the appeal of being able to find many things cheaper there.
What's wrong with flat?
Humid? Yeah from late April to late September no big deal.
Thunderstorms? So what.... every afternoon at 2pm until 3pm middle of May until end of August. You know it's coming so just avoid it!
Full of Floridians? Most folk I know are transplants from far flung states!

I went to the States a few times when I was travelling the world on ships. I always loved my runs ashore there and the Yanks were always very friendly on the whole and liked us Brits. I was always amazed why there was so many shootings when everybody seemed so laid back and friendly.

Guns are a problem but I doubt you can put the genie back in the bottle now. The clip showing the guy blasting away with a gun in a road rage incident kind of summed it up for me. Everybody presumes the other guy has a gun too so when a perceived threat occurs it's shoot first and ask questions later. Similar for the cops, they fear the worst so at the first sign of sudden unexpected movement they are trigger happy.

We are seeing similar here amongst youths with knives. They all presume the other kid/ gang is carrying a knife so they do so out of fear. Sadly Manchester is starting to see more stabbing now. If guns were legal here we would have the same problem as the States as a gun gives you more power and you can keep your threat further away.
