Tommy Caton

made his debut at 16 I think. Really thought highly of him and Nicky Reid at centre half. RIP Tommy
Palace at home first game of the 1979 / 80 season
Allison said he would have played him the season before if he could have but rules prevent schoolboys playing in the first team.

I watched his younger brother Paul play in the youth team for City in the early 80's too. Same look and hairdo as Tommy

I was born in 91 so before my time, however my Dad brings him up at random times saying he was so good he'd get into City's team now, he also keeps muttering McKenzie's goal was better then Ricky Villa's at random points too, I fear he may end up like one of the crazy people shouting at pigeons and traffic "McKenzie's goal was better!"
It was. Villa's goal looks impressive but at 78' in a replay the defenders were clearly knackered physically, as was Villa himself to be fair, and probably emotionally too after having just suffered the equaliser when we'd been fairly comfortable up to that point. Also bear in mind that Spurs got the lucky equaliser in the first game and got lucky with their first goal in the replay with the ball rebounding fortunately for them off a good Joe save. MacKenzie's was technically superb (and Tommy H's header was quite good too) so the City players must have been thinking how undeserved it was to score such a quality goal and have so much bad luck to wipe it out.

RIP Tommy. Was gutted when he left.

Dad?

Tommy was an outstanding prospect at 16, deserving and holding a first team place.
However he never really kicked on like I thought he would to become a colossus of the game.

It was the greatest FA cup final goal so far, so I’ll join him.

Big favourite of mine as roughly same age and when I did few tours of Maine road met him couple times, really nice fella

Remember him fondly, seemed a lovely bloke and a great prospect.
Could someone remind me what caused his death?
