Tommy Caton

A great talent, that first season was so good. I thought he was going to achieve so much, he moved to Arsenal, then seemed to lose his way. Did he get a run of injuries and lost his place?
RIP Tommy

A very bad environment for a young player

I think its safe to say, if Pep could of gotten hold of him today, then we'd have one hell of a player on our hands. One of the first City players I can ever recall. RIP Tommy.

Seem to remember Tommy scoring the winner at Forest (around spring '82 time?). Great player for one so young.

John Bond, by the way.
I think it might have been a draw seem to think it was his first goal for you and we equalised from a late penalty by ward.

Originally he was a starter alongside O'Leary but then Arsenal had a load of management changes and it was all a bit unstable in who wanted what and who got played, when they eventually settled on George Graham I don't think he fancied him. Think he got in with some of the Arsenal pissheads too, which probably didn't help.

I thought after that first season he broke through that he would be my favourite player for years and years to come :-(

The perils of being an FOC, the memory starts to give up the ghost. Wouldn't mind so much, but I was actually at the game (the only time I was at the ground). Lower tier of the (at that time) fairly new stand across from the TV gantry, near the corner flag.

You would have most probably been stuck under the floodlight when that end had no roof on it. I would have been standing at the end with it being spring time. It was great times to be a supporter in the Trent end in the winter and on the kop when the hotter weather came as you were allowed to use your season ticket in any of the terraced areas.

That corner was awful for away fans. I remember us being in the side stand before it was rebuilt, in an FA Cup game… about 77/78. We lost 2-1

He was a talented defender, remember his debut vs Palace iirc then we played Brighton at home the following week circa 1980 ? Think the Palace match was 0-0 on a hot day.Did he suffer a heart attack ? So young RIP.

Yes that would be the old east stand always had a better atmosphere when visiting supporters had a roof over them.

A mate of mine played with Tommy as they were growing up in Kirkby, a kid who he says was the best player ever seen in the area. All the local professional clubs wanted Caton and when he signed for City it was a surprise,
RIP what a talent and loved City
