Tommy Doyle | Signs for Wolves | will be confirmed Jul 1st

I’m sorry but I cannot believe that people on here are discussing Tommy Doyle as a league 2 level player. It’s actually baffling. He is way way above that level. Half the teams in the championship are interested in loaning him but some people on here think he would be more suited to the 4th tier?
Think some might just be trying to find a place for him where he can get the maximum game time in the remainder of the season. He’s good enough to play in the Championship, but unlike Harwood-Bellis, Doyle has not had significant playing time so far this season, so he could end up at a decent club but spending more time on the bench. I’m still hopeful he can go to somewhere like Blackpool, but it’s more important that he plays (see Fiorini at Lincoln City).

I agree.
If you watch these 'fly on the wall' programmes, following a team through the season, managers are reluctant to bring players in, during Jan, who are not match ready. As one said 'I need players who have played and are up to speed'.
Doyle needs a few games to get up to speed. Champ clubs are unlikely to bring someone in who needs a month. By then they could have played 8 games!!!!

Good points. That was why I thought Blackpool would be a good fit, given their comfortable position in the table and their current injury woes. Someone mentioned that he has recently bought a house, so I would imagine that he's not heading too far geographically, but you're right in that he needs game time so probably needs to choose on that basis.

Yes but gametime is pointless if he’s not being challenged. No point sticking him in league 2 where he will literally be strolling through games and not improving one bit. He’d be better off playing 13 championship games than 22 league 2 games.

That’s true, which is why it’s important that his next move is carefully chosen. His last year here was probably at a level where he was not pushing himself on, and at Hamburg he was starved of playing time, so the wrong choice now could see two seasons of underdevelopment. I still think Blackpool would be the best fit, but we don’t know his fitness levels and preferences.

If he doesn't change his attitude, he's not going to make it here anyway.

On the flipside

Walter might well be a bit emotional, but his analysis of Doyle in that interview is not. He's been really clear and analytic that he just needs to work on areas of his game but he's been hesitant to do it.

Based on the interview, I'd send him back to be honest. We know Pep and Walter are friends and see the game the same way. Pep has spoken in the past about Doyle needing to change his game to move from his academy box to box role to a 6 or an 8.

If he can go back and work with Walter to fix the issues in his game it will be 10x more valuable than dropping down to league 1 or 2 and getting a dozen games where he can get away with it, only to be useless when he gets back to City because he's still not doing what Pep wants.

Game time is only 1 facet of a loan. For a lot of players it's about becoming a professional, growing up, widening horizons in a new country etc.

It's an education, and being able to act professionally and work with a manager, doing what they want you to do rather than thinking you don't need to, is one of the most valuable things he'll learn.

They could be after another CM if Doyle is recallled to City seeing as Cardiff recalled our former DM Ryan Wintle earlier in the window.

Yes I thought the day that set him back if I recall was when he played in the cup at Cheltenham and was subbed off with us losing and.Ilkay rescued it. Never really been seen since.

Made it to the bench for the Tottenham and Liverpool games, and played half an hour against Swansea in the next round, but most of his game time was then with the U23s. Harwood-Bellis came off against Cheltenham, too, but he then played out the rest of the season at Blackburn.
