Tommy Tuchel's England squad | Nov '25 (p17)

Squad seemed mental. But I listened to his press conference and I think his reasoning for keeping it as close as possible to the last one is very fair actually. Media will slaughter him for it though at the first chance of anything going slightly tits up.

He's going 110% Southgate. Size, strength, experience plus of course set-pieces and lots of practicing of penalties.

He's only got a short-term contract so isn't too bothered about doing anything clever or giving players a chance to grow.

I wouldnt blame him, friendly against Wales and an away game in Latvia, Stones should be doing the same.
Stones needs game time. Will do him good to have some slow motion warm-up games against sub-standard teams. No doubt King Harry Kane will enhance his reputation as a flat track bully and the media will lap all up. The commentators will scream hysterically as he pumps one in from five yards against the Lavian keeper (who also works as a postman).

I think Tuchel's done exactly the right thing with this squad. He's creating a level playing field. Those who came in and performed stay in. Those who have been injured or are only recently performing again don't just rock up because of who they are, they have to fight for their place back. That ensures no one gets complacent and people fight with every performance to both get called up and then perform when they do. It helps ensure that England are as competitive as they can be and that no one player (Bellingham) feels they're above others.

Could be a good move, although form changes in the weeks and months between squads.

Can’t see Foden getting back in any time soon. Think he’ll only be considered in the 10 position that Rogers played well in last month and no doubt Bellingham will return before Foden.

I don't think Tuchel wants a Foden/ Palmer/ Bellingham scenario which occurred for Southgate at the last Euro's.

It's going to end up being Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes all over again. He has to pick two of the 3 and stick to his guns.

We all want Foden to succeed and get the recognition he deserves, but let's be clear, Palmer and Bellingham have been far more influential for England in the last 2 or 3 years than Foden has and I can understand why Foden is bottom of the pile.

I am glad though Tuchel has dropped Bellingham. That for me was a warning shot to the rest of squad that no player is bigger than the team.

Form does change but I don't think Tuchel is thinking too far ahead. We've got these internationals, one in November and then another in March before he then picks his squad for the World Cup. There's no harm letting certain players sweat a bit longer to ensure they retain the standards he expects. We've got a friendly and an away game in Latvia so there's not a huge amount of risk with this approach and the reward is greater.

We’ll probably lose to Wales!

the one pick that I think makes no sense at all is Loftus Cheek over Wharton. One is a bench warmer who’s been out injured regularly, the other a top player and has been a standout over the last year

One thing Tuchel has got right is no Bellingham, massively overrated.
Agreed, but I do think that we're over thinking his exclusion. He's just coming back from injury. For all we know he could have asked to be left out until he's fit and firing.
TBH, hope he never picks Phil again. Don't think this group is winning the lot this summer. That way Phil doesn't get shit on being part of Team Bellingham.
