I think what you regard as beer a lot would call ale. Beer for me includes the lot, from watery yellow piss through to the darkest stout/porter.
 
All depends on location in my book.
In a curry house I struggle to come up with a better pint than Cobra.
In Spain away from the tourist places, try and find Alhambra.
If not, Then its Budvar
On the continent as a good session lager it's Amstel from the Greek brewery.
But on British soil then I'm spoilt for choice.

Don't mean to be pendantic but it's a pet hate of mine when people refer to lager as 'beer' ....most of you have listed lager not beer, if ya gets me?

Anyway- lager- Duvel- acquired taste but a lovely drop and very strong.

I went to the Budvar plant, a few years back and they havea pub next to the brewery.
All the tables have their own tap connected to a meter, but also to a big scoreboard high in the air.
Big cheers go up every time a table goes into the lead.....
Cheap beer, competitive drinking? GMP would have shut it down on day 1
