It's hard because when I started following the sport as a little kid he seemed to be able to do things with the ball no one else could, so there's an element of that memory -- you're of course absolutely right that on achievement alone, he's not like the others, which is why he didn't make the list. I'm also coming at this from an American point of view -- he was more well-known and popular here than many other players (and recall here in the 70s soccer was an absolute fringe sport, professionally).

Di Stefano is another good shout.
 
get on cruyff's running at 36 yr old...
personaly i wouldnt put anyone mentioned above him.

You've got Eusebio, Best, Di Stefano but you leave out Cruyff . Only in my opinion is the greatest European player ever lived.
