Top 115 Female Music Artists Voting

Why complicate it? Just name 10 female vocalists that you like as that is what is required.

opening post

'please list your Top Ten Favourite Female Artists who must be vocalists'

so that is Laura #ballance off your list for starters lol

It is a fairly simple thread idea at the end of the day lol :p
But you can't vote for Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads or Brix E Smith from The Fall as they didnt sing - that's what he is saying

I can't separate voice from songwriting, playing, etc. The vocalist thing really throws me because I don't listen to, say, Blondie for Debbie's Harry's voice, so is she one of my favo(u)rite vocalists? Whitney Houston is better technically but I hate her music. Laura Ballance plays bass in Superchunk and never sings but they are one of my favo(u)rite bands. I don't even know the names of anyone in L7 but I love them. Tegan and Sara are a duet; so are Carrie Brownstein and Corrin Tucker. How do I pick between the two? This is so narrow and specific I would guess I'm only going to submit a few names, and basically that means solo artists or band leaders.
No wonder you call yourself Fog :-)
I’ll try and help
Debbie Harry is not one of your fav vocalists and neither is Whitney.Laura Ballance is not a vocalist
On the plus side you can use the duets so there’s four vocalists.
You can pick a dead heat if absolutely necessary e.g award two 5th places so I can award two lots of 6pts but then your next place is 7th =4 points.
I’d prefer it if you didn’t dead heat a pair though.
Everyone has 55 points.

Exactly. They have to be SINGERS not ARTISTS. Which means we might as well be asking about favo(u)rite female tambourine players.

Don't want to criticize here, but this is very narrow to me. I don't listen to some band just because I like the singer's voice -- ever. So I defined it narrowly and went with "artists", and only artists that have lead bands. No one who only sings, but also plays an instrument (save in the case of the hip-hop artist I included) and writes their own songs.

The opening post states vote for your favourite VOCALIST.

What is hard to understand about that?

If they don't sing they are not in this competition lol

Don't bloody vote then, Jesus Christ man, it is a simple thread idea, what is the matter with you lol

When he makes one for favourite female tambourine players we can come back and vote again.

Aren’t you over complicating mate. I voted for Kate Bush (no surprises there). I voted for the all round package, not particularly for her vocal ability. If I vote for Dolly Parton, it will be for her voice and her songwriting, Joni principally for her songwriting.
I didn’t feel constrained really as I genuinely couldn’t think of a female artist that doesn’t sing (either lead or backing).
