Top six next year?
Two years after finishing 9th. Ayear after spending almost £150m on players.
And with no doubt another massive amount spent on players in the summer.
Top six is the minimum place that we should expect after that.
It's nothing to wet your pants over.
Just goes to show how the current management team, through banging on about it every week after another dispointing result, have managed to skew the expectations at this club.
At the start of the season, without the money, many were saying that if we progressed under Hughes we might have an outside chance of top six.
Now, history has been rewritten. He appparently took over one of the worst teams in the league (yet he chose to leave Blackburn for this shocking team), has only spent enough to sort out the mess that he inherited so can't be expected to match the results of, say, West or Wigan with these players and cannot be expected to produce decent performances and an up turn in fortunes within his first year of being here (despite the likes of Alladyce, Hiddink, Megson, Bruce etc all doing it virtually immediately with virtually no spending at their clubs).
So, yeah, £200m onwards, on top of a half decent squad and we might be able to aim at sixth?
Wow, I suppose without the most money ever spent by a manager in his first season IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL we'd have had to have settled for 19th place being a good season and 6th in the Championship next year being our aim.
