Top 6 next season.............?

I can't see a push into the top 6 right now, we are 10th on merit and although 4 places don't seem a lot look at the start Tottenham gave us and they are still going to finish above us, and we can only afford 1 of the "other" clubs above us, unless someone implodes.

We've thrown away so many points though this year, were we haven't been beaten by the other team but gone and shot ourselves in the foot and gifted them the match.

We probably are about 10th on merit, but if you can't see that there isn't the basis of a top 6 side already in place, then you are silly. Granted there are some problem areas, but it doesn't need to be perfect to be top 6. Look at Everton- they have spent somewhere around 1/2 a season playing with a recognised striker and will probably finish 5th and have made an FA cup fianl?

The difference between us and teams like Tottenham, West Ham etc, is that we can spend money in the summer without the necessity of selling to balance the books. I.e. we can clear the deadwood of the club, hopefully bring in good quality players and not have to sell better players to fund it overall. Granted 1 or 2 of our bette players could well leave in the Summer, but its not a necessity that it has to happen in order for us to buy new players and improve the squad.

Villa will mate, I would bet money they dont finish higher than 8th next year. Cant bet over here though.... :(

....except in Vegas.... :)

While that is true, I think the fact we haven't come from behind in a league game, shows that we are where we are because we are a mid-table team(I'm not knocking anyway)we are what we are and our league placing confirms that.

We are well capable of top 6. We are a go ahead club looking forwards with great backing and quality young players. Football is all about the next game the next season etc. etc. not about what we didn't do last week or last season or the season before, we are getting there slowly but surely and we have every chance of getting into the top 6.

It's not we probably are 10th on merit, we are! Look at our league placing pretty much throughout the season and we have basically been between 8th and 14th for much of the season(with a little run higher and a little run below around Christmas). The problem with the top 6 is there are only 2 spots. I could see us being able to finish above any one of the four of the teams above us to 6th, but I can't see us finishing above all of them. As for balancing the books, I would agree with you on West Ham(infact I bet they have to sell a little), Fulham and even Aston Villa. However, Spurs don't seem to be in that boat and still have some assets that are of value without weakening the team. Put a decant goalkeeper in that team and with Everton and someone! Playing upfront they are both much closer than us, it's not being silly it simply is what it is.

Mark Hughes and the Owners think we can finish top 6 next season... but what makes us special next season from this season?

So surely we must be planning something big for summer if we want to be top 6 next season?

what are your views? and do you think we can be top 6 next season?

To be honest we should be able to finish in the top 6 with the team we have RIGHT NOW.

I agree I would be a little bit shocked if Villa didn't fall down the table next year.

I reckon we'll get it next year. We'll have a nice long pre-season, ADUG's first full summer transfer window, no UEFA Cup distraction and Hughes has had a year to put his foundations in place. To be honest I reckon we might surprise everyone and push for top four.

If we don't get top 6 Hughes will go.
