Good write up by Rob Hales on the BBC about GT if you havent read it. I didnt see him go up to the front and shout yeah come on to Froome yesterday (only to be shunted back to the back) what a team player he is, my opinion of him was high but went up after reading that...

Good read. I like Rob Hales, he was good to listen too at last years Tour of Britain.

Agreed. He was often the studio guest on Eurosport for the tour, not seen him this year, but good insight and nicely biased towards the Brits ;-)

I think his bias endeared him to me. And he knows the Brit riders as he has raced and trained with most of them and as i want the Brits to do best it suits perfectly :)

I like Rob Hales too, though not quite as much as I like Dan Lloyd and his unerring ability to pick the stage winner each day. Kirby was getting on my nerves today, for a guy who watches so much cycling he doesn't half come out with some rubbish at times.

Dan Lloyd doesnt half pick em, I wish i wasnt at work all the time or i would back his tips. Not seen Hales or Marcus Backstedt either this year, I do like him as well.

I see Kirby and Kelly like James Hunt and Murray Walker. One gets all excited and builds up the tension, the other knows exactly whats going on and delivers it in a cool manner, ie they work well together. Kirby was having kittens on the first stage about the bus and then the dog on stage 2, kelly didnt even change his pitch or tone and just delivered the one liners, brilliant.

I don't mind Kirby once the action gets going and he's calling what he sees, and I enjoy his general knowledge and musings on the areas they're visiting. It's just sometimes he comes out with opinions on riders or teams that make me shout at the telly 'what race have you been watching all year Carlton!!!!'. He seems to get on well with Kelly though and is bringing a bit more out of him, so I'll let him off.

I think Dan Lloyd sometimes posts his tips on twitter in the morning, could be worth keeping an eye on.

I like Kirby and Kelly and good analogy that,so now that i have got used to the Kelly brogue lol im now watching live on Eurosport and highlights om ITV4 as i do like Chris Boardman and his insights. Invaluable to a novice. I also like Backstadt and was amazed to find out he wasnt British.

All in all though the coverage is amazing and some of the shots of Corsica were magnificent. It adds so much to the enjoyment for me

I get what you mean, but its a long time to commentate without giving some of his own opinions though, I'd be even worse if it was me rambling on for that long. He has got it in for Cofidis this tour, thinks they have got a wild card and werent worthy, mentioned it 3 days in a row now!!

I gave up on Twitter (got fed up of reading what people were having for breakfast etc) but might try and look out for them (somehow)

Completely agree about Kelly's Irish brogue, I love the way he says classification, makes me smile everytime for some reason. Petacchi was another.

I do the same live Eurosport, highlights often ITV4. I started watching live on ITV4 but i think Eurosport is better overall (they do it all year around)

The scenery and shots of castles etc are all part of the tour. I'm guessing that you've never watched a tour go up Ventoux? That is a bizarre landscape and one of my favourite hill top finishes.

I have watched one live but because it was on not because it interested me if that makes sense. I didnt take it in or realise its significance. Since getting bitten by the cycling bug i have watched loads on you tube and now appreciate it for what it is. Im the sort of person who when attracted to something is voracious in search of knowledge of what things mean and in what context they are important.

So Mt Ventoux this year along with Alpe D'Heuz is something i am really quite giddy about to be honest and if that sounds a little sad, to me its like getting a new toy at xmas :)
