Tour de France 2023

Pogacar had the domestics around him for the last few days in the hills and didn't go, he's either a bit fucked compared to Vineggard or wrongly fancied his chances today.

Realistically the GC race was won today.

Shades of Landis in 2006…surely LJV can’t be that dumb
He was too good today. Pog blew VanAert’s time away but then Vingegard dropped his kecks and pissed all over the lot of them. It was too good to be true wasn’t it?
This year’s Tour has been considerably quicker than recent editions. Mmmmmm.

How do you compare when the route is completely different?

It’s not an exact science but you base it on average speed. Just checked the stats for this year and it is actually SLOWER than previous recent years but only by 1km/hr. So ignore my previous post which was based on complete bollocks!

I read somewhere that the watts produced by the riders are higher but not up there with the known dopers of the past. So I don't think we have grounds for assuming doping. But who knows mate.

The gap to Pogacar was surprising, but the gap to the rest is really hard to believe. Especially over just 22km. There was a lot of climbing but he was already ahead on the flat bits which shouldn't really be the case as he is one of the more diminutive riders.

I felt uneasy about the Alaphilippe ITT a few years ago but this is probably a bit worse.

Vingegard said he wanted to take it easy on the flat bits and ‘only’ push 360 watts but instead he put out 380 watts because he was feeling so good.
There’s no way he’s a minute plus quicker than Pogacar over 22km as we’ve seen in this tour so far. You can’t put it down to Pog having an off day because his TT was also brilliant.

Sadly I've watched enough cycling over the years so be blown away by some exceptional rides, only for them to be exceptional for a reason! I'd be surprised in this day and age if there was doping, but you never know. Hiding it is always more advanced than the testing to catch people out. Over such a short course it was a real surprise he took so much time out of people, but the main TT specialists were expecting the GC riders to finish above them so maybe it was just an exceptional ride! I'm sticking with that until it's proven otherwise.
