Tradesmen

It has been 2 months so far, in that time he has been round 1 weekend sat+sun 8-4 (we had to stay out that night) and the sat just gone 8-4.
i think he will be round another 2 days. Those that have had it done quicker, was it just the 1 guy doing it?

He is doing it as a foreigner and it is taking a while as he has been sent to work away by work and his bird has just had a baby hence it taking so long.

Also, he said he can't give me a certificate to say that it has been done - does this sound right?

He is breaking the law, us reputable companies/electricians have to spend £400+ a year and have our work inspected by one of the government appointed industry boards for domestic installations, if we do not issue certificates for work done we do not comply with current regulations, foreigners are not the way forward and the Part P scheme was brought in for this reason and to weed out the cowboys, usually on a house re-wire we would have a spark and either a labourer or apprentice it is difficult to do a re-wire properly in my opinion on your own, you may need to get his work checked after he has finished if you persist with him and that won't be cheap, and if he has not complied with current regs it will be flagged and will cost you to have it put right

This is the most worrying part even if he cannot give you a certificate if he is in the trade he should know someone who can come and test and certify it

Get him to get a mate or someone he knows who is qualified and legit to come and check the work, sign it off and issue a certificate.
Will probably cost about £70-£100, depending on what he's charging you in the first place, which i would assume is cheap as he's doing it on the fiddle, you'll probably end up footing the bill for the safety check.

It's no wonder tradesmen get a bad name when people are happy to employ somebody unqualified to do the job in the first place, just to save a few bob.
Like an earlier poster said, you get what you pay for.

Oh and electricity is dangerous!! Why the fuck would anybody employ anyone other than a qualified tradesman?

Even if he knows someone, is that person going to register that job under Part P, I know I wouldnt as that would mean I have taken responsibility for that installation, and if any thing was to go wrong my neck would be on the block, this is the reason Part P scheme was introduced to prevent this kind of carry on, also with the best will in the world you can not inspect an installation fully, how do you know what's been left under the floor or in a wall etc, my advice would be to ditch the guy M34 and get someone in to either start again or at best finish what he has started, who has the correct accreditation and the knowledge to issue a certificate and register the job on completion

He works as an electrician for a company and has done re-wires before, he did next doors and the work was fine so I presumed he was fully qualified.

Who could he/I get to sign the owrk off if he can't?

What is up with these people, why cant they do the job properly ,whilst not trying to rip you off.Just had one back to re-do a couple of small things which were faulty only after 2-3 months of paying him good money the first time.At the end of his 10 minute visit, the cheeky fuck asked me for another £40.

Do you do YOUR job perfectly EVERY time?

If not, stop fkn whingeing and next time, do it yourself you moany fucker.
Actually always do my work to the best of my ability and dont fucking try to rob people,so if I want to moan about every second prick cowboy tradesman doing this then I will.

I bet you are a right bundle of laughs ain't ya?

Read what you have put again, you really are coming across as a moaning windbag.

As the saying goes, if you pay peanuts.....

Everyone wants a Buckingham Palace syle finish on a Waynetta Slob style home for £2 and a cup of tea these days.
