trainers

LoL...

Dunno how many miles I've hammered in mine, but they still feel very comfortable and I picked them up for £30 from Sports Direct.

Asics for me are the best running shoes (that are accessibly priced, easy to source)

Double your money, buy yourself something that look great, the latest features etc, but they won't make you perform any better than say someone who spent £30 on the trainers - and the £60 on some decent nutrition.

Go into your local Sports Direct and try them on first, move around in them.

As for the Gym - I tended to run barefoot on a treadmill, found it alot better.

I have just bought Nike Dual Fusion, They are so comfortable to run in, and I run around 7km a day in them.

Right, this is the thing you need to remember, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES just walk in to a sports shop (sports direct, JD, JJB etc) and pick a pair of running trainers off the shelf and think they will suit you - the chances are they won't and they will cause you to get injured, quickly!

If you want trainers for running in, you ned to go to a shop to get a gait analysis - a proper running shop. Sweatshop are the best imo but you could also go to up and running or one of the smaller specialist shops.

You need to try on lots of different pairs to see which ones suit you and what size you need - you usually need a bigger size for running in that you would normally wear, this is after they have worked out if you pronate or not which is the most important thing to know when buying running trainers.

This is not good advice.

Don't suppose you saw that programme the other night, panorama style programme about sports products?

I used to think like you, but the results of testing saw absolutely no benefits of wearing cushioned trainers and really made me question why I do such research into running shoes.

That is one very small study. I could find you 100 bigger and more conclusive study for every one you find that says it doesn't matter.

Don't ever ask someone else for advice on running trainers becuase what works well for one, may not be good for others.
OP - if you want some actuall worthwhile advice, why not go to the runners world website forum, there are hundreds of people on that forum who run every day and have done for years - see if you can find just 1 person on there who say you can just pick a pair from the shelf.

am in nike air pegasus atm and they are really comfortable as well. sounds vain but they look the nuts too. have absolutely battered them mile wise the last 12 months (indeed have done a marathon in them) so must just have been lucky as have had no injuries, etc. will look at getting my new pair sized up. thanks for the suggestions everyone, inc lancet & bth. think il give them a miss though :)

If you have got on with pegasus, why are you even asking for other suggestions - stay in pegasus until they stop making them.

that does contradict your previous statement somewhat, regardless, as previously stated these will primarily be for the gym/my vain personality dictates that I want a different pair.

Yeah sorry, I was looking at it from a running perspective from habit. Personally, I would stick to the pagasus for running and buy something seperate for the gym as you don't want to waste the running trainers for walking about the gym in (they don't last long) but you shouldn't really be running much distance in a multi-use pair.
