Training Ground work bearing obvious fruit

can't wait until DeMichelis gets on the scoresheet, I only know of Ivanovich and Terry as CB's that win more headers on a corner than he.

I wouldn't call West Ham stubborn or defensive, just shit.

Good OP otherwise, not quite there yet defensively as shown by our lack of clean sheets but hopefully that will continue to improve in general feel over the season. The rest you're pretty spot on with.

Didn't we have a bet pre season regarding west ham????

turns out, nope we didn't, your prediction is pretty solid at the moment, but that's all it was.

You're doing well with your Norwich and Soldado predictions....

One little snippet of play last night particularly fascinated me and its obviously worked on. Our full backs were high up the pitch yet both Vinny and Joleon took full back position and javi and yaya dropped into almost centre half. Therefor creating space for nasri and silva to come central. It was casually done but showed to me how fluid we are becoming.

I like it lots

yes, basically if you want to bet on the Prem, don't listen to me :).

It made sense to me in August.

I mentioned this in the Pellegrini thread after the dippers game as it was a tactic that they used well with Lucas. Yaya doesn't do it as much as Javi does for us but we effectively play a 4-1-3-2 which then becomes a 3-5-2.

I was really impressed with the scousers shape when they did this against us and it allowed Sterling and Coutinho to come inside with Johnson and Cissokho practically playing as wingers. We struggled with their shape that evening.

Good post, I am seriously enjoying watching the game live in attendance also enjoying my recording of the game when i get home as you get to see things you miss whist at the ground. Even find myself watching the highlight shows as well, speaks volumes, can't get enough.
Only part I'm not enjoying is having to list to muppet pundits who just don't want to see what we see or plainly choose to ignore our prowess.

This squad his it within its grasp to be considered the greatest ever from these shores within the next three years.

Our midfield four have an average age of 28 and if we can keep them together and injuries permitting it will be completely untouchable for the next two seasons after this, at the very least. Between the third and the fifth goals at home to Arsenal our midfield displayed a physical presence that their midfield simply could not live with. We counter attack, as someone posted the other week, like wild animals, with such purpose and menace it's a truly intoxicating experience to witness first hand.

A world class left back and central defender in the summer and this team could very well go on to rank alongside the Milan side of the late 80's and the Ajax team of the mid 70's in the footballing pantheon of true greatness.

And that's before we even think about...errrr....enhancing our forward line in the summer.......

Good article, explains his 4222 system

When we slap someone away 4 or 5 nil I will be fully converted to all things Pellegrini ! I had my doubts early on wether he could implement his system especially defensively so 10 out of 10 to him.

If we had won 12-0 last night West Ham couldn't have complained. their keeper was easily their best player making 4 excellent saves. Add to that Yayas free kick and Dzeko ballooning over the bar and it was almost perfection

One of mine that GDM :)

Nice post from DD although I disagree re our supposed defensive strength. We only have to go back as far as Swansea to see that Bony could've had 3 or 4 and DeGuizeman missed when through on goal.

It's what Guardiola did with Busquets and has done this season with Lahm.

Rodgers inherited this tactic from his study trips to Barca, he also used a lot when he was at Swansea.

When the keeper has the ball or a goal kick the centre halfs spread to the full back position on the edge of the box and offer to pass the ball out. If the pass isn't on then the cdm's offer so it can be played out central, if possible he never wants the keeper to kick long.
