Can we all get it in to our heads that they are what they are. I'm sick of reading he's not worth that he's not worth this. Who cares?
It really isn't our money,in essence it isn't even our owners money anymore, just like any other club we've been handed a load of dosh, albeit we can add to if required.
Let's get the players we need to make a much better challenge this time round and us fans should enjoy that and let our very business savvy chairman worry about the bill.
Chill.
spot on.Stones will go the same way as Sterling. You can see it in the thread about him. So many people who can't just shut up and let the club deal with the money side. Need to tell the world that he's not worth X millions. It's fucking tiresome when the club's opinion on a player's worth is the ONLY opinion that matters. By all means people should discuss his potential as a player, but the tedious nature of this is all too familiar to Sterling last summer.
Sometimes our supporters do the work of the bastard rags in the media for them.

Defenders with any kind of prem experience and english do not come cheap that is the bottom line, they all make mistakes so it's a bit much to point out the mistakes in a young player.Vinny makes mistakes as do the likes of Terry etcI'm in the opinion camp that £50 million is at the moment too high an estimation for Stones. Not that the value itself is exorbitant, because I agree that the market value is just that. But for Stones it is too high. My argument is that he is error prone and his average 4 costly defensive errors per season for the past 3 seasons points to that. Some argue it is because 1) he is under Martinez, or 2) he plays with wank players. That doesn't make him an instant £50mill hit with us. I also understand that Pep wants him and we should trust Pep. But the £50mil valuation did not come from us it came from his club. For all we know we are posturing an initial fee + addons deal or player swap addon, which I think is the more realistic and beneficial approach.
The club can spend £50mill for the player. It's their money. But I reserve my insignificant judgment until he plays a season with us. If he turns out a £50million player like KDB then good for us. But if he carries his form from everton, then what will we do next? Buy the next £50mill defender because clubs know we will pay that much?
I think that fair enough.I cannot say for others who says £50mill is too high. For me it is to do with Stones and only Stones, not the fee. We can buy him form £200m for all I care as long as he solves our defensive problem. At the moment, Mangala's defensive stats are better than Stones, and there are defenders out there who have far better stats than Stones and wouldn't cost even half the £50m. My stand is that Everton is overestimating his price.
Great post. I think some people are more concerned about getting value for money than good players. My favourite transfer forum post of the summer so far was someone saying that Aubameyang is worth no more than 25 million. Presumably posted by someone who has been in a coma for about 4 years. Can we all get it in to our heads that they are what they are. I'm sick of reading he's not worth that he's not worth this. Well it seems our business so far has been on the thrifty side so maybe the board are looking at value for money as well.Great post. In fairness the club have hardly gone all out to introduce the kid to us. What was it - one tweet and that was that? I imagine there are many like myself who don't know a lot about him.EDIT:
It's telling that the Zinchenko thread is barely at 11 pages. That kid is the real deal but because we're not being fleeced by Juve for him and because he's not the hot new name in South America, no-one's that arsed about his signing.
Indeed, the right player is the right player, if he costs 15 million great, if he costs 50+ so be it. I think we have shown so far this summer that it is more about getting a player that will fit Pep's plans and get us functioning properly in his system than buying huge star names for the sake of it (the Nolito transfer particularly shows that IMO) but then I am pretty sure by the end of the summer we will have bought at least one, possibly two signings that will cost a load and some people will be going apeshit about it. re: the Zinchenko thread, it isn't surprising that the expensive signings capture supporters' imaginations more than the cheaper ones, I wouldn't criticise people for that, most of us are probably guilty of that. Plus lots of posters have probably not seen much of him whereas we've all seen Pogba etc.People are becoming more and more clueless when it comes to City and how we do business. It's almost as if people want us to behave like Real Madrid, whilst staggeringly missing the fact that we've employed people who are effectively the anti-Madrid.
So much of what Pep said the other day reinforced the idea that guys like Poggy are permanently off the agenda, as are any players who they think aren't the right fit. Doesn't matter how 'good' they appear, wrong attitude for Pep, means they're never getting signed.

On the plus side, you can call him what you like and he will never know. :)In fairness the club have hardly gone all out to introduce the kid to us. What was it - one tweet and that was that? I imagine there are many like myself who don't know a lot about him.
You're missing out having me on ignore Billy. haha!

That's what got me on the list in the first place! :-)On the plus side, you can call him what you like and he will never know. :)
Do you think we are being deliberately thrifty or is it just that the players Pep has wanted so far happen to not be ridiculously expensive?Well it seems our business so far has been on the thrifty side so maybe the board are looking at value for money as well.
Personally I want to see us spunk about £300m and be accused of buying the title.. :-)
The 19 other PL clubs would hurredly stick there fingers in their ears, while reapetedly singing la- la-la, at the top of their voices, until teacher finally gave in and revoked it because we breeched FFP.... The very reason that why they "made it up, 10 seconds ago" in the first place.Well it seems our business so far has been on the thrifty side so maybe the board are looking at value for money as well.

It was exactly the same at Bayern, lots expected him to go in there and throw money around but there were one or two biggish purchases each summer with one or two cheaper buys but nothing mega expensive. Slightly different situation here though for him, so he will probably need to splash a bit more cash around I suspect.I've never been more captivated by a transfer window because you just KNOW every single player is coming with a clear plan from Pep's point of view of how and where he wants to use them. Nolito, Sane, Stones, Gundogan, Zinchenko. There isn't a dogmatic profile (you've got old young cheap expensive all in there), just Pep knowing what he wants in any given position and what kind of person he wants.
You're probably right about Zinchenko but I guess that i'm disappointed my personal giddiness at how good he's going to be isn't shared by others. Admittedly i've not seen a great deal of him, but enough to know that he should be going straight into the first team and not out on loan.
