Transfer fees

The thing with transfer fees is that fans of other teams will use it to criticize other teams dealings but will never apply thesame logic when it comes to their own team, to be honest as long as we keep winning titles and moving forward then I couldn't care less what we pay and I don't pay much attention about the media/other fans opinions. At the end if we think a player will make a positive difference then thats all it matters

Do you think we are being deliberately thrifty or is it just that the players Pep has wanted so far happen to not be ridiculously expensive?

Too late now mate, some poor decisions, presumably made by the board immediately post 2012, now mean that FFP has us well & truely by the b*llocks. (It's very purpose)

The time to strengthen, as Mancini so righty said, is when you're at your strongest.

Imagine going on your pre-season hols, having (allegedly) shaken hands on agreements for, both, Ibrohimovic & DeRossi, and finding, on your return, that Rodwell & Sinclair have, somehow, rocked up, in their car parking spaces, instead.

personally speaking i get annoyed at the look at money spent for what return but that table is fast turning
players are worth what clubs pay but rarely do we know full price or right price one rule for one

Do you really think FFP has us by the bollocks? I assume it isn't much of an issue these days for us. Although I do agree that was a mess of a transfer window in 2012.

I've never been more captivated by a transfer window because you just KNOW every single player is coming with a clear plan from Pep's point of view of how and where he wants to use them. Nolito, Sane, Stones, Gundogan, Zinchenko. There isn't a dogmatic profile (you've got old young cheap expensive all in there), just Pep knowing what he wants in any given position and what kind of person he wants.

You're probably right about Zinchenko but I guess that i'm disappointed my personal giddiness at how good he's going to be isn't shared by others. Admittedly i've not seen a great deal of him, but enough to know that he should be going straight into the first team and not out on loan.

One of the things they said at the performance analysis talk this weekend was that they work to a brief for each position, which should not be a surprise, and one hopes that those briefs had input from Pep. Some players that make the short list may not be expensive; many will be.

I think he is the starting leftback by January and top 5 leftback by next summer.

Must admit I'm not particularly bothered by transfer fees. Found it odd last summer when people were saying things like "I'd pay £50m for De Bruyne, but not £55m". Why would you really give a shit if it's not your money?! Surely you just want to see the best players possible at City. It's for the money men at the club to decide what we can afford.

I havent got enough upstairs to attempt it to be honest, but I would be very interested to know, had sheik Mansour taken over the day before FFP came into effect, just how many of that 2012 championship squad he would have been able to buy?

How True, Pogba's agent will probably allow the rags to pay, the supposed £100 million on the knock, from now over foreverat two bob a week, rather than the "one size fits all" option" that was given to us.

Yeah just think if it came in when Baconchops took over the swamp they'd be on 48 years without winning the league!! These ifs and buts are Bullshit for opposing fans with an IQ of 50.

To be honest mate, their isn't a cat in hell's chance that FFP would've ever come into being, if Sheik Mansour had rocked up at the swamp.

I don't really see why folk shouldn't discuss a players transfer fee along with other aspects of the player although I would agree that some comments border on the absurd , so they do with many other aspects of the footballer.
It is not directly my money, however I do invest time and effort as well as money to watch football and follow City, our budget is not unlimited if we grossly overpay on one transfer it may mean we are unable to get another player, conversely if we get a bargain most of us probably feel a bit good about it without fully being able to explain why.
Yes the club and those dealing with the transfers have a much better handle on what is the right amount, and know far more about the total financial package but it is also true I hope that they have a much better idea from thorough scouting by professionals of a players ability and will know far more what the managers and coaches want. This does not stop us commenting on the quality of a player as we perceive them.
I don't usually chat about a players transfer fee but don't really see why those who are interested should not talk about it in the same way as discussing other aspects of a player, you get sensible and stupid remarks about most aspects of a player on theses forums.

Exactly this!

We all want to know the valuation of a player.
We all look for the transfer fee of a new signing. So, why not talk about it?
I agree that some posters do talk as if it's their own money but there's nothing wrong with discussing the reported fees etc, and having an opinion on what a player is worth or not worth.

I hope we have a world class signing to showoff and I don't care how much the club spends it's not my money!

This +1

Do we think our management team are so stupid that they buy players in a random manner with no thought of cost of course they do and as long as they are happy then so should we

Bump!

They are what they are so please stop moaning x,y,z are too expensive...

It's not your money, it's TV money and it's TV driving it.
