The National Football Museum have asked me to do a talk about Bert Trautmann next week https://www.nationalfootballmuseum.com/whatson/half-time-talks-bert-trautmann/ Thought I’d mention it if anyone wants to come along. Plus a reminder that on 11 April I’ll be doing a talk on the origins of MCFC, its first success and the role Supporters have played in its history (chants, attendances, match day at Maine Rd etc.). Tickets for that are available here https://www.thedancehouse.co.uk/events/2019/228-mcfc-125 Cheers

Gary - my old man is coming to this. A blue of 75 years and Bert is his absolute hero. He is so looking forward to it.

I’d better make sure I’m accurate then!

When my dad was a kid he used to wait outside the ground for Bert and Bert would give him his autograph etc. My dad did this countless times. My old man went on deans gate to Waterstones when Bert was signing his biography nearly 50 years later and my dad had a picture of him and Bert from all those years ago and took it along.

Bert remembered my dad from the photo.

Also my dad has not been to the cinema since the early 80s but he is counting the days until the release of the film about our goalkeeper.

Hope the talk goes well Gary!

He’ll love it. In many ways it’s not a football film but it is a powerful, entertaining and at times sad story.

Yes I remember from reading his book he had a tragic life in parts!

As an aside Gary! I am thinking of doing a book with a scan of every single city programme home and away to 1945 from my collection! Can I ask - would anyone buy it and how do I go about it? Would love to pick your brains.

Up to 1945 - how many and what years? One of the issues would be copyright plus I’ve found it increasingly difficult to get publishers in recent years. Book publishing is difficult but not impossible of course. I’m busy at the moment with all sorts of stuff but DM me or whatever and I’d be happy to offer advice (you’ll have to nudge me a few times though). Cheers

Sorry Gary. I am close to having every home and away to 1945 from present day! I was thinking of asking the guys at empire exchange! I was in today and noticed even the blazing squad have a book published. I will pm you.
