Trevor Francis RIP

My favourite city player of that era even though he wasn't with us long. Saw a lot of him with Forest England and when he went to Sampdoria who I had a soft spot for when italian football was all the rage. Classy player

Really sad and shocking news- 69 is no age at all. I was soo giddy at the prospect of him signing for us and very anxious t hat there was talk he could go to the rags ? Luckily I got to see him in a blue shirt but only for a season .
Still tenner him acting an absolute beauty against wolves to put us top at Christmas- I was in the platt lane that day I think it was late on.
Gutted when we had to sell him after just one season

Great Player - remember his time at City very fondly. Was el-rapido in his time. Great photo of him earlier in the thread with Big Dave Watson about to try and eat him up.
How very sad - Be scoring goals on the great football pitch in the sky. RIP Trevor.

Everton game wasn't it (it was a bit unpleasant on and off the pitch that day from memory)
A very gifted player was Trevor Francis, almost unplayable on his day, quick, skilful, good eye for goal.
John Bond signed him in the summer after the 81 Cup Final, like many, I was excited that we had signed such a top quality player.
The downside was that he was quite injury prone and we relied on him so much it was very noticeable when he wasn't playing.
Sad news, these days that really is no age!
 
I loved Trevor Francis as a player. Him scoring the winner for Cloughie in the European Cup final was such a great moment for English football and coming to City was a dream come true. You couldn't help wonder if he could do for us what he'd done for Forest.

There's a great story about him from his time back at Birmingham City as manager. Some journo was interviewing two BC players and asked them who the best player in the club was. "The Boss" they both replied. Trevor would have been early 40s at the time.

They then told a story of how they were having a competition in the dressing room after training one day to see who could turn the light switch off by kicking a football at it. They'd both had several attempts and failed.

Trevor walked in and said, "What are you two still doing here?" so they told him. He picked up a football and said, "That's easy". Took one kick, turned the light off and walked out.

Gutted to hear that his light has gone out. RIP Trevor.
