I know many City fans of a certain generation rate him but how good was he? In the early 90's I worked with a load of Brum fans and to them he was a God. I've read interviews with him and he always said in his opinion City was the biggest club he ever played for.

I've also heard about his debut away at Stoke when he thrilled the fans - was it the tonic we needed after the FA Cup final defeat?

I remember Trevor as a young kid sadly thats all.

He was excellent only at City for a relatively short period of time and always seemed to be injured but when he played always scored - quality player and an all round decent chap

I was working at Sheffield Wednesday when he was manager and he seemed a really decent fella.

Yup never heard a bad word against him - remember him scoring for us last minute against Notts Forest (I think) froma corner - even the forst fans did not seem too pissed off

We've had a few epic away days at Stoke with massive support. 1977 unbeaten run. 1981 with trevor francis. 1988 xmas fancy dress. Francis's debut was right up there with them - brilliant summers day in August and he was shit hot, always regretted we never kept him longer. great player up there with Bell, Kinkladze, Robinho in terms of ability. Clough knew class when he saw it and broke the million pound barrier to get him. When he first burst on the scene with Birmingham as a 16 year old he knocked in around 15 goals in 15 games including 4 in one match versus Bolton (?) and was hailed as the "Wonderkid" far more impressive that that plum Rooney at the same age. Always a bit injury prone unfortunately and spent a lot of time out so never made the really big name that he should have.

Trev oozed class. One of those players when you expect something to happen every time he had the ball - and quite often it did! Sad day when he left but an early indication that the writing was on the wall. But hey ho we're all here to tell the tale. Happy days :-)

I thought he was head and shoulders better than anyone one else in the team at that time. He was lightning fast, so fast that the rest of the team weren’t on the same wave length. If memory serves me right he played 24 games but during his time at the club he had a few injuries which prevented him from playing.

I wasn’t too bothered when he left because he was that good and fast at that time he just didn’t really fit in with the rest of the team. He really needed to be playing in a better team that suited his pace and style.

He went to Brazil on some kind of coaching exchange when he was a teenager and the Brazilian national coach said he was the best raw talent he'd ever seen at that age and this was a guy who had coached all the great Brazilians of the 70s.

He said if Trev had been left in Brazil for a few years he would now be up there with Pele, Cruyff et al but he went back to England to get clogged around Div 1 in the freezing mud, drink a cup of tea at half time and have every injury treated with a bucket of warm water and a sponge.

He was a very good player, he could have been a great player.
