Hope they lock him up. It's a shame as I always liked him, but drink drivers are scum and what team you support or how nice a person you are doesn't change that. The only good thing is that he got lucky and didn't seriously injure anyone

No, because you'd be driving whilst disqualified and then you'd get jail anyway, well before the 7th time.

I've made my position clear though: drink driving should not imo be an offence for which you go to prison, unless and only unless in very exceptional circumstances. And definitely not just because you had 1 glass of wine too many. Absolutely, definitely, emphatically not.

We'll beg to differ. I get you'll never lock a drink driver up however bladdered he is and however many times thev'e done it. I take it the exceptional case in which you would bang one of these ****s up is if he killed someone?

I prefer a zero tolerance approach. Why do it?

I like having a glass of wine with a meal and there's no evidence I am any less safe for doing so, compared to the vast numbers of boy racers or old grannies on the road who cause far more accidents. As evidenced by insurance premiums!

EDIT: For avoidance of doubt, I am not condoning drink-driving. I meant have a glass of wine and staying below the legal limit.

We're going around and round in loops here. You've already begged to differ, as have I. You think people should go to prison for pretty much any and all drink-driving offences, I think that's ridiculous. End of discussion as far as I am concerned.

Let's move on. I am doing.

I had about ten pints Friday night at our works do. Was rough on Saturday and went on line to work out of i was safe to drive to the game. Almost 17.5 hours after my last pint I worked out I would probably still be over the limit so missed the game.

Not worth taking a chance. Not for the ban but could never forgive myself if I killed someone.

the limits are quite scewed though, I remember watching a show which tested different people a good cross section if you like(a big bird, some slim lass, an old fart & standard 20 something fella etc) they all had a bit of what they drink and iirc the young lass had two bottles of wkd and was well over the limit, but the old fart supped a bottle of merlot and was under. the only avoidance is not to do it full stop. That said I will own up to having a pint and driving home.

And no-one should have any problem with that imo. You're perfectly safe having drunk only a pint (unless it was a pint of Old Tom!) People suggesting what you have done should be illegal, want their lumps feeling.

Making that illegal would do NOTHING to improve road safety and would inconvenience countless millions of perfectly responsible and safe drivers. Not to mention further damage the pub and restaurant businesses with even more people not bothering to going out for a meal.
