Trident

Cheap Indian rubber.

Whatever turns out to be the reason, it is an embarassment to the US (their equipment) as well as ourselves (our deterrent)
I don't think it's too much of an embarassment.

Any type of ballistic missile is notoriously problematic and failures are pretty common. It's no different for any other country and there isn't really any technological superiority over each other.

As long as one missile potentially gets through then that's enough to maintain a deterrent. Assuring that is why each submarine carries 16 missiles with each itself armed with several warheads.

Of course it's an embarrassment. It's the US's and our nuclear deterrent. Any test firing is visible for all to see.

Failures are pretty common? what examples have you of this as I would say they are very reliable (Trident, and it's predecessor, Polaris)?

Your last para is simply incorrect

We aren't privy to everything. This was a catastrophic total failure and that's rare but to say there are no problems at all ever and this is unique would be silly.

Total catastrophic failure is OTT. That would result in loss of submarine and crew.
You said failures were pretty common and just wanted to know what you were basing that on as I disagreed

Can people not see that this is a stunt?

"ooh look at the 'failure' of this Trident test. LOL, It's not fit for purpose!"

"Indeed it isn't, Citizen. Guess it needs a £50billion investment, what with Russia and all!"

And you all fall for it.
My thoughts exactly.

No one is saying do the decent thing and scrap the useless white elephants
