Never seen as many tourists I hope we get relegated to division 1 then at least we we will be able to watch a game without people taking selfies every where
I understand your sentiments, but City won’t get relegated again. Those days are over.Never seen as many tourists I hope we get relegated to division 1 then at least we we will be able to watch a game without people taking selfies every where
What do you think they should be ashamed of? Seems an odd choice of word. The 1-1 v Celtic in the Champions League is the worst night I’ve ever had in the stadium. They were everywhere and not remotely ashamed of it.
My guess he was a Yank. Sports just isn’t tribal over the pond so they’re quite happy to mix with one another.Hey, snap! It was years ago, in the seventies, when the West Ham “firm” were decidedly active. I went in through the wrong turnstile and I think I must have found myself right in the middle of them. Wasn't wearing my colours (I wasn't that stupid) but I had to keep my lip buttoned up when we scored, and sort of smile sickly when they scored. As I remember it, we won the match. But I can't say it was at all agreeable.
Re. the OP and the following post from @Scaley. If the fan involved really was a complete tourist, i.e. from another country, maybe another continent, they could have been making an understandable mistake, up to a point. I think there are countries where it's sort of tolerated. May be wrong, but I don't think you get into fisticuffs in the States if you're at a baseball or American football match and you do that. If you were in Italy, by contrast, and it was Inter against Juve or Inter against A.C., you'd be lucky to get out with life and limb intact.
It's culturally very variable.
I don't approve of it. I don't really begrudge them getting the ticket. I just don't know how you're a fan who is willing to pay that sort of money but don't have a passing knowledge of the customs and culture of the sport you've spent $$$ to watch. I'm not being facetious about it. I love pro wrestling, I want to visit to Japan to watch it there, I know that crowds have their own norms that a pissed up British lad starting chants would be told off for. I'm just fascinated by the discrepancy of loving the sport enough to travel but not loving it enough to know there are segregated crowds and a long history of hooliganism.I know plenty of Americans who wouldn’t think twice about taking any ticket they could get their hands on to see a big game. They make a $$$ trip out of it and don’t really care too much where they sit.
American football has opposing fans intermingled all the time and there’s rarely trouble, with certain exceptions. They just don’t think that cheering for either team might get them a slap.
I know…yanks, stupid, blah blah, but tbh it’s a bit silly that it happens to “regular people” who just want to enjoy the game as opposed to the ones who revel in the banter and taunting, isn’t it?
I get it, but I grew up with it. These tourists just don’t know what they’ve got themselves into, so it’s always nice when someone has a word in their ear. Even better when it’s through a steward!
Selfies are one thing, I'm sick to death of being filmed by tourists for the authenticity like I'm fucking Mickey Mouse at Disneyworld.Never seen as many tourists I hope we get relegated to division 1 then at least we we will be able to watch a game without people taking selfies every where
for supporting that shiteWhat do you think they should be ashamed of? Seems an odd choice of word.
Guy next to me in 105 paid £400 for his ticket.Firms like these are a large part of the problem.
£309 for a ticket in 109, pretty sure some "fans" will see that and think I'll have a bit of that. Sell 3 of those and it pays for your season ticket for the other 15 matches.
I’m not saying there isn’t some level of responsibility to not blunder into a problem, just that most people wouldn’t expect to get beaten up for it.I don't approve of it. I don't really begrudge them getting the ticket.
