I don’t think that is a system, merely an idea that is based on a 1974 memo, which ultimately came to nought as Nixon resigned.System is he steps down, vice president takes over and its him who pardons Trump.
As I mentioned above, his current predicament is a State crime, not a Federal crime, and the Presidential pardon does not cover State crimes.

Sky News had his (very) short term Comms Director Scarramucci on a few minutes ago.
Said he expects that this case to be a nothing burger that will be settled with a large fine ultimately.
He said though that Georgia, Jan 6th and Secret Docs indictments are coming, that Trumps family are refusing to join any campaign and he expects Trump to drop out later this year.
