I spent the last year working in Ankara. I left in July at about 10.5try to the USD.
it was incredibly cheap for me but its excruciatingly expensive for the locals.
Turkish people are a really friendly race.
Absolutely terrible the way it has gone.

It was quite telling during that coup attempt how long it took western powers to condemn it. They only did so when it was obvious it was going to fail.

Yup - though it's not clear now that he'd be re-elected given a free and fair election. Democracy in Turkey is dead at the moment. WIth any luck, Democracy in the USA won't be dead within the next few years or so.

Inflation figures. When the Govt admits to 36.1%, you know it’s bad.

‘The government-run Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has reported an annual inflation rate of 36.1 percent in December, the highest in two decades, whereas the independent inflation group ENAG put the figure at 82.8 percent‘ @DuvarEnglish.
