TV extras

In a previous job in the mid 90’s, I was once interviewed live on the Six O’clock news, as first story, in relation to unemployment figures that were announced that day and basically how to improve them.

Very nervous before it kicked off, but once the lights went on I was fucking amazing. :)

Still have the video somewhere.

You've reminded me that I was on Yorkshire TV's Calendar programne describing an investigation into a company selling mobility products and I've been on R4's You and Yours programme quite a few times. Only one interview was done live, for Radio Leicester, and it was a disaster. Won't be doing live stuff again.

Howard's Way.

It was filmed in a place I lived in as a late teen called Bursledon. They filmed in 2 pubs in the village, one late at night/ early morning and one for small pub/ crowd scenes.

Jack, the old boatyard owner, had to leave the pub shouting "night all" drunkenly before staggering off down the dark Hampshire lane. He did it in one take. Unfortunately after all the free beer they plied us with the crowd were less professional. "Fuck off" came a reply followed by peels of laughter. "Cut."

And again...and again...

Still, I'm there in the finished version. Back of my head. Mess of teen hair.

We were in other scenes as well. Mainly as we kept hanging around trying to chat up the blonde one.

1979, Stars on Sunday with a world famous North West school choir at Yorkshire TV studios. Highlights was fish finger, chips and peas in the canteen. Just discovered is was the last ever episode.

Just to clarify, this is before their 1980 Xmas number one as I'd left by then so no appearance on Top of the Pops or meeting Jimmy Saville.
