Prefer Slow Horses TV series than the books myself…….I have read most of Mick Herrons books (on to Bad Actors now and all the ‘Oxford’ series) and I find them a really strange enjoyable read. The question is - do I start watching ‘Slow Horses’ or will I find them a disappointment? I always like to read the book before the film as I then see it as I want to see it and not as someone else sees it.
For me it’s not meant to be……..lot of quirkiness……I can rewatch numerous times along with Early Doors, Phoenix Nights & Curb your Enthusiasm…..But Early Doors is rolling round on the floor in bits hilarious and this, just isn’t.
Its so frustrating when its an adaptation of a book and the people are cast are different to the people you pictured in the role, they did that with the strain and cast people completely different to the people i had pictured which somewhat ruined the show for meI too have read the books, the TV series is a pretty good adaptation, Gary Oldman is how I pictured Jackson Lamb, and other castings are accurate.
i think with shows like early doors and phoenix nights if you grew up in the north you recognise those characters, you've met those people and thats what makes it funnier and allows you to watch over and over. For me it’s not meant to be……..lot of quirkiness……I can rewatch numerous times along with Early Doors, Phoenix Nights & Curb your Enthusiasm…..
Escapism at its best……….we all need a laugh nowadays;-)i think with shows like early doors and phoenix nights if you grew up in the north you recognise those characters, you've met those people and thats what makes it funnier and allows you to watch over and over.
that we do, tbf ive been watching a show thats made me laugh for the last ten years called the rags, give it a go , theirs slapstick, theirs lots of useless characters and just when you think they are turning it round they have another season to make you laugh.Escapism at its best……….we all need a laugh nowadays;-)
I thought it was excellent.only one thing to watch now if you haven't already and that's Spy with Sasha baren Cohen, it will provide a little onsite into the lengths Israel go to, great tv and a true story
A bit of useless info for anyone interested. The TR7 was actually owned by Mackenzie Crook and it was auctioned last year at Matthewsons with the money going to charity. She's Diana Riggs daughter, not that it makes a difference.
As someone said earlier it has a cult following, metal detectorists and Triumph TR7 owners.
