For all of Spurs squad problems he's the first bloke I'd be looking at replacing!
If they don't make CL football this year we'll see the 'Arry we all know and love. If he gets his way and Bale, Modric et al stay, he'll sign more players to get into the CL next year, more money, more wages, and they won't make it, again. 'Arry pops off for a stint and Levy is left with a squad of worthless oldies like Parker, and a few players like Bale and Modric who's valuation has only gone down now being a year older and not paraded around the european stage to become flavour of the season again. Levy is supposedly a smart man, he needs to keep his best players but get rid of 'Arry before he causes some serious damage. He's already spent a shedload on what's pretty much the worst front line in the league.
along with lennon and huddlestone and dawson for that matter
I don't think it's as ridiculous as you think. Spurs do have a very poor front line, and it's not come cheap either. Defoe, Pav, Crouch all cost money, and none of them really perform. I don't think that's really up for debate. There was a good reason for Harrys January scramble for strikers, something else he completely fucked up with his wheeler dealer antics. By the time he was flapping about trying to sign every man as his dog we'd already got a goal out of Dzeko.
Secondly, Bale has been the single most over rated player this season bar none (devastating is the last word I'd use for a kick and rush player - Plenty of defenders have kept him whisper quiet in the league all season). One hat trick at the San Siro plus a good follow up game at WHL, and that only had so much glory piled onto it because Inter were the CL holders, with seemingly little credence given to the fact it was possibly the largest swing in form from CL winners to bag-o-shite - How did they get knocked out of the CL again? Did you know that Reina now has the same amount of assists as him? He has a ridiculous valuation based on his performance in the Champions League, not the PL, and he may not be valued as high as he is right now ever again if he doesn't get back into it. Modric is a fantastic player, I would very much like him at City, but again, his valuation will be higher if he's already playing CL football, which next season he may not be.
