The sky is brilliant tonight. Very clear. However there is one."star" shining more brightly than others so i presume its a planet but which one?
it will be Venus

Thanks mate. Always thought of the planets as not visable really. Have these last couple of weeks been repeated in living memory? I can't recall being told you can see 3 or 4 planets with the naked eye before.

you can see Venus most nights if the sky is clear and its early

mars is seen quite often with the naked eye, better through binocs

If you look into the southern sky on this clear evening, the brightest star is Jupiter and to the right of it is Saturn
And if you look opposite into the northern sky, Uranus is as clear as anything (awaits witty comment about arses)
This thread is like Halley's Comet, reappeared after 76 years :-)

And on this clear night, the bright star that's low in the sky is Venus, the one higher and to the left is Jupiter and if you focus your eyes and draw an imaginary line between the two, about half way is Saturn
The moon was perfectly in line with them the other night too

Nights like these, I do love my telescope :)

Just had Jupiter and 5 of its moons in my scope. Quite a sight.

Not a patch on Saturn tho, thats just awesome.

Was thinking of buying the Missus a telescope as she loves stargazing and all that - what would be your recomendation for a decent quality reasonably priced option?

Difficult to give answer without understanding budget, but Celestron's are a good place to start.

You definitely want one with a computer so it automatically tracks objects.

Celestron NexStar 102 SLT is a great entry level telescope. I had it myself.

Couldn’t find the night sky thread but for anyone with clear skies tonight, Venus, Jupiter and Mars all presenting

Was out looking at the sky last night. 3 planets in a row. Not sure which but I’d have expected one to be Mars however there was no red tint to it. Clear skies again tonight.
