Typical City

Only we could miss a sitter and then a minute later get stitched up by the referee , it happens every season in the Champs league , rinse and repeat , typical champs league City ,would rather go out in the group stages and save the aggro , and concentrate on winning the league title.
Same as it ever was

Well. How familiar does this seem to City fans like me of a certain vintage?

We probably all thought, hoped, that the days of typical City were over. Clearly not.

People will ask questions about the starting line up tonight - both formation and personnel. And there seems no doubt that Pep has over thought it again tonight. The ghost of his gung-ho selection away to Monaco has cost him with defeats against Dippers and now Lyon due to being over cautious. (VAR was the villain v Spuds of course.) But the truth is that two errors by two world class players in the space of 60 seconds cost us tonight. How did Sterling miss and how did Ederson spill a routine shot? Typical City.

For me, we have added to our trophy haul so this has been a decent season in the context of the 35 years between 1976 and 2011, but the poorest season in the recent era. Pep won nothing in his first season but it wss all new to him and not his squad so understandable. But this year? Our record in the league against the top teams has been poor. We've bullied the shite tesms and not got results against the top teams. Only three decent results/performances against top teams - the two legs v Real and the home game v Dippers. Since March we have focused on two cups and failed to get to the finals of either.

Worst of all for me to stomach tonight was leaving David on the bench until the dying minutes of the game. He should have had at least 30 minutes to influence the game. A poor way to treat a great servant of the club and a serial winner. Typical Ciry?

It wouldn't surprise me if his new club said he couldn't play.

Back on Topic.

City are Back!

:)

It’s not gone. Incompetence again tonight

"Typical city" was a label for things like winning the league and getting relegated a year later, having the record own goalscorer, playing for a draw when we needed a win and subsequently getting relegated.

Being knocked out in a European Cup Quarter final by a team that's just beaten the Italian champions over two legs is so far away from this that I won't bother responding again. Pull your head out of your arse.

You forgot to mention us beating the Spanish champions winning in the bernabau against the great Real Madrid then fukin it all up against a mid table french outfit........Typical City

Having been a witness over the decades to many of those city self harm events, it seems it’s the lack of leaders and fight in the team that is a common denominator. This season is one of those spells where collectively the team and manager are lacking the desire effort and planning to stop shooting ourself in the foot.

Sorry but it still feels like Typical City to me. Typical City in the past cocked things up. Wasn't it Francis Lee who said if there was a cup for cock ups City would win it?

Last night City cocked things up. The team selection was a cock up. The fact David Silva was only given a few minutes was a cock up. Foden and Bernard not getting on the pitch was a cock up. Sterling missing from 5 yards was a cock up. Ederson's whole performance was a cock up. KDB trying to beat the keeper from just about every set piece was a cock up. Our full backs not getting forward enough was a cock up.

The combination of the ref and VAR cocking up was the only element beyond City's control. Lyon are not a great side. Our squad is far superior. But we cocked up. And as far as I'm concerned, even though we are now a wealthier and more successful club, last night was Typical City and we deserve the cup for cock ups yet again.

That's pretty much the reply I gave to this post after the match. This was in no way typical City.
