u18 v Newcastle

I can’t be the only one who’s not impressed by stuff like this and last night? If you’re destroying people at this level it just means kids are playing below their level.

Palmer, McAtee and Delap shouldn’t be beating u23 teams 8-0 they should be with the first team, and the best u18s should have played in their place and the best u16s should be playing Newcastle for the u18s.

The titles were already decided as well, so there’s no tangible benefit to beating someone clearly nowhere near as good as you 13-0 l.

They drew 2-2 with this side early on this season. They're all basically first years too. It's a very young side. Unless you promote all the EDS to the first team so you can move the 18s up to the EDS, what's the solution right now this second? They don't win like this every week either, obviously.

But we do play all of the players up a level already, we'd end up playing the 12 year olds at U23 level at this rate.

Sorry but that’s bollocks.

Borges, O’Reiley, Breckin, Mebude and Adam are not playing up a level, they’re all u18s (ie they have already or will turn 18 this season) playing at u18 level.

Thats 9 of the 13 goals right there.

Also…even if it were true then it doesn’t matter. Reece James and Hudson-Odoi were playing u23 football at 16. So were Foden and Brahim occasionally.

Exactly. I just believe things clicked today. You get this type of thing once in a blue moon. A shedload of the lads are really young as well.

Tbh if sounds a lot like your problem falls squarely at Pep's feet. It's his call to free up EDS space basically. He doesn't.

They drew 2-2 with A Newcastle side, but not this one, only 3 players from the Newcastle 11 that drew 2-2 started today.

Yeah obviously he’s largely responsible but if Foden wasn’t getting picked should he still get u23 games? Or would the EDS coaches not bother because it wouldn’t help anyone?

And there should also be someone at the club who can say to Guardiola that he either has to use these players or loan them.

Well, they need football at some point, somewhere to maintain their rhythm, i'd guess. Midseason loans are just a nightmare. The lack of loans outside of transfer windows sorta kills this off too. Generally speaking, the loan market is so tough to get right. Doesn't help that we let Pep have a small squad, so he wants them to hang around. Who's gonna have the balls to tell Pep that? He's changed the club forever.

So next season.

Every single EDS player needs to go somewhere else, the level is too low. Promote, loan, sell, get them all out of there.

Promote the entirety of the u18 to EDS.

That's next season sorted. I've already seen Borges destroy u18s, don't know why he is still here, thought after his injury and gradual return he'd be part of EDS, atleast next season he should be.

He has been playing for both tbf to get his fitness back.
I’d suggest he is already above EDS level as well

Probably.

But still think players should a full EDS season first. Just feels proper.
Indeed, and it seems right to give Edozie his chance on that left side first - he has done extremely well and doesn't seem to rely on extreme physicality to get by. Neither does Borges, of course, but Edozie seems to have a good level of football intelligence as well as the ability to go either way.

Borges has played a grand total of 750 minutes or just over 8 games with just 76 minutes of them played before the new year. The majority was with the U23s BTW. There was never a snowballs chance of him going out on loan and letting someone else manage his rehabilitation (even if we could find someone daft enough to take him).

Edit: not sure if that total includes today. (it might not include the last 4 games actually as it hasn't been updated yet)
