why is it when someone is successful, the british mentality is to ridicule succesful people.

Rock & Roll

I thought they were good myself.

Rather than make a pre-judgement on Bono being a pretentious **** (which he is of course) I would rather think for a 51 year old his voice held up well enough to put on a decent performance.

As for the comment about the crowd, how were they not enjoying it ?

Flags waving, singing along and all in a massive downpour.

Completely agree mate, how can people say the crowd weren't enjoying it... a few times Bono let them take lead vocals and thousands of people shouted back the lyrics. It was hammering down with rain yet thousands of people went to see them, sang along and every time the camera showed the crowd people were smiling and singing along.

I can understand people not liking Bono, I'm a U2 fan, but can't say I particularly like him. But like you say his voice was decent enough and they put on a good show.

It was pretty much a greatest hits set and even if you don't like U2 you can't deny they have some absolute tunes in their back catalogue. U2 aren't a ''cool'' band anymore, I appreciate that and their latest albums aren't great either. But they put on a good show, fair play to them.

I watched it back there again on the HD station and it sounded better than on the normal bbc last night. I cant knock them to be honest. They had so many songs to choose from and the set was decent. They will always get haters for whatever reason. To be at the top for as long as they have been is something else. Yes Bono can be a bit of a tosser but name me a front man who isnt a tosser. All of the best front men are tossers..

To be honest what Glastonbury do well is they get in a decent old act to headline 1 of the stages during the weekend. They had Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young in years gone by and all delivered.

cannot argue with the facts - 150,000,000 records sold, 22 grammys which is more than any other band in history, one of the best innovative live bands and even God has a copy of The Joshua Tree....U2 music will be still played long after everyone on this forum is dead. (but agree Bono has disappeared up his own ass but I will judge them on the music and the live shows that are always sold out!)

I am Irish so a bit biased :)
