This is the thin end of the wedge. Home town fans are being take the piss out of because the greedy fat cats running the show want globalise the domestic game to maximise the profits for themselves.
 
The day this happens in the premier league is the day I cancel my season ticket and give up all together. Got to have some principles about you after all.

I do think the premier league will hold out a long time due to backlash.

They could have just said no.

I bet Cerefin is looking at it in case it could be a nice little earner for the champions league to move the final outside of Europe.

How will this generate loads of money for these leagues?

Is American Football more popular here now because a couple of games are played over here?
 
This is probably one of the many reasons clubs want to get rid of season tickets. Zero season tickets means fans really do just become a customer, paying different prices for memberships which gain you better privileges and access to games depending on which membership you purchase. No point in having a season ticket if ten games will be played in different countries is there?
I remember Gary Cook saying something when he was appointed chairman. He said we had to stop thinking of Manchester City as a local club now and view it as more global, or something along those lines.
It's shit but it's probably going to be unstoppable. Of course it will only work for the most successful clubs, which again leads to a super league.
 
The US pre season Premier league cup is the tester for this.

If it's being done. Out of fairness it should take the whole league over for one or two rounds of fixtures. The scheduling would have to negate European/FA/League matches otherwise it's a farce and another excuse to manipulate fixtures.

I would have thought he approved it both for the reason above and because it's a good little earner for Serie A/La Liga which helps them try to bridge the gap to the PL - which could stave off the threat of the super league for a little longer. There's no way in hell fans in this country will allow games to be played abroad, so if Serie A and La Liga are more relaxed about it then they could try and breach that gap.

Get a little more TV revenue/sponsorship from the US/Saudi and boost their coughers that way.

Yes, significantly so. There was even talk of one of the US franchises moving to London because of the appetite to watch the NFL in this country.

The Superbowl was watched by around 3.4m people in the UK. Which is nearly double the viewing figures for PL games in the US despite the much larger population. The FA Cup final peak audience was around 5-6 million (I can't find the exact figures) so it's grown pretty significantly.

No idea if it's true, but the reluctance does have some sense behind it.

The reason they're giving is that if they'd said no it could have gone to court, and they thought the rules weren't clear enough to ensure they'd win.

If they lost, it creates a precedent, and it's open season for games abroad.

The positive spin is that they let it happen, and it gives them time to work out how they can tighten the rules so it doesn't happen in future.

The more cynical spin would be that it's an easy way to see what the reaction is like, while not taking the blame if there's a huge pushback.
