UEFA Cup (europa league)

The players will though fella! It's more acceptable for their ego to just play CL and be completely eliminated rather than be relegated to this less glamorous affair and end up with Thursday night games against Spartak Kebab of Frickincoldstan in -20 degrees.
I think the bolded bit tells us all about your feelings about europe. However our players will do what they're told to, its their job, and do you seriously think any of them would turn their nose up at a (lesser) european trophy ? Of course the CL is more acceptable, but they'd still take the consolation prize if it was offered.

Anyway I was talking about the fans who are turning their noses up at it, I think you were one that said after Roma that you'd had enough of the CL, so it clearly won't be for you this "lesser" tournament I guess, that's your choice.

There's an arrogance that about some of our fans that I don't recognise, for years we aspired to be in the PL, and then Europe, and then the CL, but now there are people saying fuck it, mostly because its more difficult than they expected (and corrupt), and its been brought about by the money put in by our owner who incidentally DOES want to be involved, and also to a degree the way we have been treated by UEFA, but its certainly changed our fans for the worse, imho.

I'll continue to support the club thanks in whatever they play in, each to their own.

if we can;t manage to get trough of course i want us to at least play in EL..at the end of the day it's a EUROPEAN TROPHY and also will give us the chance to play the european super cup...if we will end up in EL i really really hope our players will give everything to try and win it..at the end of the season EL and one of title/Fa cup could see this season not such a bad failure

The Europa League really could be our platform to performing in Europe.

There are some very good European sides in that competition, teams at a minimum on par with CSKA who have outperformed us over the two matches.

Also, we could then adapt to playing new systems and leave some of the bigger names out by just claiming that we are resting them for the weekend. Lets face it, if we dropped Yaya for a CL game there would be uproar. However, if we dropped him for a Thursday night match then it would cause minimal disruption.

If we can do well in the EL, when it includes the CL drop outs then there is no reason why we cannot transfer that into the CL.

What is it about Thursdays that seems to offend people so much? Honestly, I find it bizarre how often people bring it up as if it's something that's supposed to make sense as a complaint. If we get in the Europa League then we should be going all out to win it, as we need the european practice, not to mention the practice of sustaining a european and domestic dual challenge. We need to find a way of playing in Europe and that's not going to happen without playing european football. I like the Europa League though tbh, it's football without all the bullshit.

For me its the fact that we then must play on Sunday's, and given the distance I travel to home games, its just always a shit journey back, I've never liked Sunday games, since we first had them, I'm not arsed about Thursday nights in particular.

However if it means we're still in europe I'll put up with it.

As one of the "bigger" clubs in the tournament we might actually get some dodgy decisions in our favour

Do you actually believe that ????

I think most City fans (certainly of a certain age anyway) will always rank the winning of the European Cup Winners Cup in 1970 as possibly (so far) the clubs finest hour although some may beg to differ. The Europa League or UEFA Cup as I still call it was always considered the more prestigious to win back when all three European Trophies were available to compete for. So hell yeah if we dropped into it I'd be delighted if we went all out to try and win it. Obviously I want us to retain the Premiership if possible but I certainly wouldn't turn up my nose if we added this to our honours list.

New and interesting places seem to come up in the Europa League. Really enjoyed visiting Timisoara, Salzburg, Poznan, Torino, Thessalonika and Kiev. Porto and Lisbon were a breath of fresh air. Fed up of Munich and been to Madrid and Barcelona loads of times.
